GREENFIELD — Ben Werner pitched well, getting into the seventh inning, but Greenfield Post 81 was unable to extend its winning streak to seven games on Monday night.
Visiting East Springfield Post 420 rallied from an 1-0 deficit with two runs in the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh to capture a 5-1 victory in an American Legion Senior Division contest at Vets Field.
Werner tossed 6 2/3 innings for Post 81 (6-3), striking out three and walking six while allowing four hits and four earned runs.
At the plate, Werner drove in his team’s only run with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning that plated Logan Moore to make it 1-0.
East Springfield (6-3-2) tied the game when Werner issued a bases-loaded walk, and took the lead on a fielder’s choice later in the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, Eliezer Rosario delivered the big blow for Post 420 when he smacked a three-run home run with two outs to extend the visitors’ lead to 5-1.
On the mound, Rosario went all seven innings, striking out nine and walking three to go with five hits for the victory.
Greenfield received two hits from Werner, while Arthur Fitzpatrick, Moore and Hugh Cyhowski (double) also had hits on the night.
