BERNARDSTON — While there were no contested races on the ballot, voters ushered in a new Selectboard member at the polls on Monday.

Brian Hervieux, 54, who’s lived in Bernardston for roughly 15 years, was elected with 49 votes to fill the seat vacated by longtime Selectboard member Stanley Garland, who did not seek reelection to another three-year term.

When interviewed about his candidacy for Selectboard, Hervieux said he wants Bernardston to grow by introducing commercial and industrial-type businesses to the town. He also wants to work on property tax relief, a topic that was discussed during the April 29 Annual Town Meeting.

“I’d love to kind of poke and prod the state like, ‘We’ve got to fix this,’” Hervieux said. “We have an aging town and a small town at that. I think they’re kind of pricing little towns out and I kind of want to rock the boat a little bit at the State House on behalf of Bernardston.”

Forty-nine people cast their ballots out of Bernardston’s 1,793 registered voters, making for a 2.73% turnout.

The remaining results for uncontested races are:

■Assessor, one-year term — William Deane, 48 votes.

■Assessor, two-year term —Melissa Murphy, 45 votes.

■Assessor, three-year term — Russell Deane, 45 votes.

■Board of Health, three-year term — Barbara Killeen, 45 votes.

■Constable, three-year term — Peter Shedd, 47 votes.

■Cushman Library trustee, one-year term — Zoe Darrow, 44 votes.

■Cushman Library trustees, four seats with three-year terms — Jeana Bachinski, 43 votes, Elizabeth Demarco, 44 votes, Joel Finnell, 44 votes, and Karen Fitzpatrick, 43 votes.

■Powers Institute trustee, two-year term — Kristina Streeter, 42 votes.

■Powers Institute trustee, four seats with three-year terms — Kenneth Bordewieck, 45 votes, Paula Reid, 45 votes, Brandon Staiger, 46 votes, and Shannon Wissman-Hoar, 44 votes.

■Recreation Commission, two-year term — Jennifer Stafford, 48 votes.

■Recreation Commission, two seats with three-year terms — Clayton Cardin, 47 votes, and Jenna Skutnik-Sheffield, 46 votes.
