Bulletin board: 13th season of Northfield Summer Road Race Series kicks off

The 13th season of the Northfield Summer Road Race began Thursday night with 16 runners and eight walkers participating. vMason Youmell, Javion Williams, and Alex Scotera crossed the line of the 5K (3.1 mile) course for a three-way tie for first place.

Marcy Cabanas (23:28) was the first female finisher and ninth overall. Rounding out the top five finishers were William Thomas (21:29) and David Thomas (22:01).

The weekly race starts at 6:30 p.m. from the back parking lot of 105 Main Street in Northfield, and runs every Thursday June through August. Walkers are welcome and can start early and/or take a shorter course.

The cost this year is just $5 per runner with max of $10 per family. Members of school cross country or track teams run for free. Everyone gets a prize from the award table packed with items from local businesses, farm stands, and homemade cookies and treats.

Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the race starts at 6:30. New this year, the race is now part of the Northfield Recreation Commission program.

Pristine Orientals 11, Elks 3 — Morgan Beckwith was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Emmy Perez and Zoey Lively also had big nights at the plate to power Pristine Orientals to an 11-3 win over the Elks in a Greenfield Girls Softball League contest on Thursday at Murphy Park.

Kiley Canepari, Lexi Preissler and Lilliana Hubert all smacked two hits for the Elks.

Franklin First Credit Union 3, Pipione's Sport Shop 1 — Adeline Ebbinghausen, Danielle Zraunig and Grace Hickey were all 3-for-3 at the plate for Franklin First.

Pipione’s was led by Clara VanDoren’s three hits, in addition to a pair of hits from Savannah Daignault and a hit from Eleanor Jones.

Triton Automotive 8, Descavich 7 — Lenyx White went 4-for-4 with two doubles, while Adie Abercrombie and Clara Behan each had two hits for Triton in the win on Wednesday. Lenyx White has eight strikeouts on the mound.

Descavich’s Lexi Berry went 2-for-3 while Esme Sauter and Charlie Lovett contributed with hits.

Rotary Club 13, Ruggeri’s 5 — Blake Miner had a triple and three RBIs for Rotary, with Brock Puchalski and Carson White each adding a hit on Wednesday.

Ruggeri’s was lead by Brody Suhl (two hits). Toby Campbell and Jovani Borgos each added a hit in the loss.

Golf

Thomas Women’s League

Sally Malloy fired the low gross of 39 while Terry Adams carded a low net score of 24 to pace the Thomas Memorial Women’s League on Wednesday in Turners Falls.

Closest to the pin on No. 7 was Jenn Murphy at 19 feet, 3 inches.

Timmons-Messer League

Jeff Seymour was the match medalist with a 38, while low gross went to the team of Bill Noyes and Dan Arsenault with a 36 during Timmons-Messer League action at Northfield Golf Club on Wednesday.

Seymour and Ronnie Parker were next with a 37. Matt Deane and Tim Herzig took low net with a 24, while Jim Jason and Doug Turner were next after a match of cards with a 27.

Seymour was closest to the pin on No. 6 (13-5) and Matt Sykes was closest at No. 7 (4-3).
