Bulletin board: 43rd Montague Mug Race set for Aug. 17

The 43rd Montague Mug Race will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17.
The 5.5-mile road race “blasts” off at the 8:30 a.m. from the Montague village common. Pewter Mugs are awarded to the top male/female finishers, coffee mugs are awarded to the top finishers of each division and T-shirts are given to the first 60 runners.
The 2-mile Mini Mug race/walk kicks off at 8:35 a.m. Both races will finish at the ballfield.
Runners may register online (runreg.com), and entries forms are available at montaguemugrace.com. Proceeds benefit the Montague Fire Association and Congregational Church. For more information, email shollow25@comcast.net.
Northfield Summer Series
Twenty-seven runners and six walkers participated in the second race of the Northfield Summer Road Race Series on Thursday, with Sam Blecher capturing first place overall on a 2.9-mile course in 18 minutes, 9 seconds.
Marcy Cabanas (20:38) finished second and was the first female finisher. Other runners in the top 10 included Mason Youmell (21:15), Alex Scotera (21:15), Matt Bassett (22:18), William Thomas (23:10), Connor Guertin (23:30), Issac Bingham (24:05), Autumn Bingham (24:05) and Derek Postema (24:07).
The Northfield Summer Road Race takes place every Thursday. Races start at 6:30 p.m. at 105 Main Street in Northfield.

Noah Stoffolano added a hit and an RBI in the win, and Mason Deome pitched well with five strikeouts to close out the game.

Elks 3, Franklin First Credit Union 2 — Alexia Preissler, Alyza Rivera, Tayanna Ndissi, Emma Stone and Lycinia Guillemette each had multiple hits for the Elks Club in a team effort win against Franklin First on Wednesday.
Danielle Zraunig, Marlee Pratt, and Ellie Martin were each 3-for-3 at the plate for Franklin First in the loss.
Tri-County League
Hilltown Tents 4, PeoplesBank 0 — TJ Thibeault’s no-hitter fueled Hilltown Tents in a 4-0 win against PeoplesBank on Wednesday.
Thibeault had four strikeouts and four walks while Marshall Ingram smashed two hits and an RBI in the win. Tyler Dubreuil had two hits, while Michael Bassett and Ben Arnold each tallied a single and an RBI. Gabe Gochinski and Owen Phelps both had a single and a stolen base in the win.
PV Women’s League
Shelburne Falls 11, Ashfield 10 – Lexi Farrick smacked two home runs, helping Shelburne Falls to an 11-10 victory in a Pioneer Valley Women’s League contest on Thursday at Mohawk Trail Regional.
Melissa Hersey paced the defensive effort with a stellar catch in the field for Shelburne Falls, while Candy Sousie (2B, 2 RBIs) and Amanda Lee Shero (2B, 2 RBIs) paced the offense in the win.
Ashfield’s Nikki Pullen was 4-for-5, and Meg Burrington smacked two hits and made a fine tag at first base.
Greenfield Coed
Liberty Tax Sharks 28, Cartelli Collison Center 21 — The Sharks received big performances from Robert Badillo (five hits, triple, two RBI), Storm Cinder (five hits), Matt Gibson (five hits, double, home run, four RBIs) and Jade Cuevas (four hits, two RBIs) en route to a high-scoring victory on Wednesday.
Elyse Merrill (three hits), Kyle Conway (three hits, four RBIs) and Mike Cole (three hits, home run, four RBIs) also paced the offensive effort, while Che Christi smashed two home runs to set the tone, tallying five hits, two doubles, and five RBIs for the Sharks.
Josh Myers had four hits and four RBIs and Brandon Eckel had two hits and three RBIs for Cartelli. Rachelle Mathey (three hits, double), Dakota Burgh (two hits) and Danny Hamberg (two hits) also contributed.
Timmons-Messer League
Ronnie Parker and Ray Kendrick took first place in the Timmons-Messer League on Wednesday at Northfield Golf Club with a low gross score of 36.
After a match of cards, Andy Sena and Brad Stafford took second with an identical 36. Don LaCoy and Ed Reagey came in first with a low net of 25, followed by Jim Cadran and Pete Blake who won a match of cards to nab second place (27).
Closest to the pin winners were Sena (No. 6, 4-3) and Roland Racine (No. 7, 19-5). Sena shot 37 to earn match medalist honors.
