Bulletin Board: Amesbury's Drew Everett wins New England Green River Marathon

The New England Green River Marathon took place on Sunday, and Amesbury’s Drew Everett was the first to complete the course in a time of 2 hours, 27 minutes and 34 seconds. 

The Green River Marathon begins in Marlboro, Vt. and ends at Greenfield Community College.

Holden’s Ian Ridgway took second (2:40:22) while Shelburne Falls’ Vincent Gauthier was the top local finisher, taking third with a time of 2:41:19.

Winchester, N.H.’s Matthew Zablocki (2:45:50) and Allston’s Kyle Cloutier (2:48:11) rounded out the top five.

Kirkwood, Mo.’s Sadie Smith was the top female finisher with a time of 2:56:54. Woonsocket, R.I.’s Maggie Fox placed second (3:07:47) while Boston’s Yasmin Dadikhi (3:07:59), Chevy Chase, Md.’s Isabell Friedrich (3:09:20) and Somerville’s Leslie Nazar (3:11:17) rounded out the top five.

Other western Mass. finishers in the top 50 overall were Westfield’s Andrew Woodbury (12th, 2:56:22), South Hadley’s Steve Schmeiser (17th, 2:59:29), Sunderland’s Jeffrey Ahlman (19th, 3:01:45), Florence’s Henry Ferrari (23rd, 3:02:31), Shutesbury’s Andy Reagan (29th, 3:05:56), Northampton’s Scott Monroe (37th, 3:08:02) and Northampton’s Eric Ciocca (38th, 3:08:30).

Thomas Memorial Senior Championship

Charlie McCracken was crowned the champion as Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls held its Senior Championship on Sunday. McCracken fired a low gross round of 76.

Rod Herzig placed second (81) while Bob Bourbeau finished for third (83). Mike Morin carded the low net (70) while Brian Peters won a match of cards over Al Ghiz to take second (72). 

Bob Walker was the winner in the Super Senior Division, shooting an 82. Rod Demers took second (86), Frank Penny shot the low net (73) and Bill Chalmers placed second in net scoring (75). 

Sally Malloy won the Senior Women’s Division, shooting an 87. Robin Hartnett came in second (92) while Maggie Valentine took third (94). Leslie Heath shot the low net (72) followed by Sue Mailloux (74) and Deb Puchalski (76). 

Greenfield Open

The 2024 Greenfield Open took place over the weekend at the Country Club of Greenfield, with Justin McCloud winning the Blue Tee Division with a gross score of 70. 

Andy Dastoli and Jim Patterson tied for second (71), Tim McKenna placed fourth (72) while David Kennedy and Derek Hoy tied for fifth (74). 

In net scoring, Steve Mihalek took first (69) followed by Mike Slyne (71), Dylan Archer (71), Steve Jones (72), Sam Conant (73) and Anthony Laurenitis (73). 

In the White Tee Division, Zachary Circosta was the winner with a gross score of 72. John Dempsey and Terry Blanchard tied for second (75) while Dae Perlmutter, Dean Vecchiarelli and Roy Emerson tied for fourth (79). Brian Luippold and Norman Morris tied for the low net (67) while Mike Hall and Mark Castelhano tied for third (69). 

In the Black Tee Men’s Division, John Varner was the winner with a gross score of 71 while Richard Tozloski and Phil Phillips tied for second (74). Barry Dow had the low net (68) followed by John Cormican (69) and Terry Sinclair (70). 

In the Open Women’s Division, Helen Wright was the champion with a gross score of 77. Terry Boyce took second (84) while Nancy Robie earned third (88). Jodi Hoynoski shot the low net (65) while Elaine Goodhind and Irene Woods tied for second (73).

Greenfield Touch Football League

Gill CC Woodworks 46, Namaste Pink Panthers 0 — The defending champions kicked off the season on a high note, as Pat Viencek fired eight touchdown passes to lift Gill CC Woodworks to a victory on Sunday in the Greenfield Touch Football League. 

Cody Underwood, Jalen Sanders, Adam Bastarache and Malachi Roman each caught two touchdown passes. Mason Meadows and Dan Jenks played well for Namaste. 

Titans 14, Namaste Rockets 7 — Isaiah Lopez found Josh Dixon for a pair of touchdowns while Calvin Roman tallied three sacks in the Titans’ victory on Sunday. 

Jordan Markham found Nuny Vega for the Rockets’ score. 

Sirum 13, J&J Sports 7 — Malcolm Smith tossed a pair of touchdowns, one to Parker Hickey and another to Jaden Whiting-Martinez, to lead Sirum to a triumph on Sunday. 

Chucky St. Hilaire added two sacks in the win. Mac Rodgers connected with Eric Pardee for J&J while Kyle Alamed played well in the loss.
