Bulletin board: Crumpin-Fox Club’s Keith Burch qualifies for Mass. Mid-Am Championship

Keith Burch paced the local contingent at Wednesday’s qualifying round for the Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Golf Championship.

The Crumpin-Fox Club product shot a 1-over 73, finishing in a tie for seventh place in the event held at Westover Golf Course in Granby.

Burch punched his ticket to next month’s Championship Proper, to be held at Cranberry Valley Golf Course in Harwich (Sept. 3-5). The top 12 players and ties earned spots in the annual event, which requires golfers to be at least 25 years old and have a Handicap Index not exceeding 4.0.

CFC’s Ron Laverdiere shot 2-over 74 to finish in a tie for 15th place, while fellow Crump member Mark Waskiewicz was just off the qualifying pace with a 3-over 75.

Country Club of Greenfield’s Chris Bourbeau shot 78.

Springfield Country Club’s Dan Fanion was one of only three players under par, shooting a 1-under 71 to snag a tie for first place with Salem Country Club’s Mike Rattigan and The Milton-Hoosic Club’s Jonathan Jones.

CFC Senior 2-Player Scramble

The team of Dave Cronin and Mike Laga sho t 65 and earned low gross honors at Crumpin-Fox Club’s Senior Open 2-Player Scramble on Wednesday in Bernardston.

Al Griffin and Gary Mattesen tied with Carl Hoynoski and Jimmy O’Sullivan for second place with a 67.

Low net went to the teams of Bill Hill/Chris Chartrand and Dan Benoit/Jeff Soley (59), followed in third place by David Grondin and George Gosner (61).

Skins were won by Dan Benoit and Jeff Soley (hole 3 and hole 18), and Tim Brandl and Tom Helbig (hole 8).

K of C League

A four-way tie for first place in the Knights of Columbus Golf League at Thomas Memorial on Wednesday saw Al Ghiz, Frank Penny, Rod Demers and Mike McCarthy post plus-6 point quotas.

McCarthy posted the low gross with a 37.

Closest to the pin winners were Demers (No. 7, 3-10) and Ken Adams (No. 9, 4-10), and Adams also won a skin.

Thomas Women’s League

Sally Malloy fired a 42 to snag low gross honors at Wednesday’s Thomas Memorial Women’s League in Turners Falls.

Karen Kacenski was the low net winner with a 29.

Closest to the pin on No. 7 was Jane Smith at 9 feet, 3 inches.

Tennis

GTA Mixed Doubles tourney

The Greenfield Tennis Association’s Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament, sponsored by Danco Modern, will be held this Saturday, Aug. 17 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Beacon Courts in Greenfield.
