Bulletin Board: Don Maynard Memorial Race set for Sept. 21

The 30th annual Don Maynard Memorial Race is scheduled for Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m at the Greenfield Municipal Swimming Area. 

The options are to run the 5 mile road race or the 3 mile walk. T-shirts will be given to the first 50 people who register. Online registration is available at RuSignup.com. The race is looking for volunteers. Questions can be directed to Chuck Adams at 413-522-6688.

Senior Legion

Greenfield Post 81 7, Westfield 6 — The bats came to life for Greenfield Post 81 during the sixth inning against Westfield Post 124 on Thursday night. 

Trailing 4-2, Post 81 scored five runs in the frame and held off Westfield in the seventh to walk away with a 7-6 victory on the road at Bullens Field. 

Shane Brussard hit a two-RBI single that knotted the game in the sixth before Dylen Richardson singled to drive in a pair that gave Greenfield (11-5) the lead. Jackson Campbell added an RBI single to give Post 81 its 7-4 lead. 

Brussard finished with a pair of hits and RBIs while Logan Moore tallied two hits and an RBI for Greenfield. Ben Werner recorded a hit and an RBI, Hugh Cyhowski knocked two hits while Braeden Tsipenyuk hit safely in the win. 

Caleb Thomas pitched the opening five innings and struck out two before Cyhowski tossed the final two innings and struck out two. Westfield loaded the bases in the seventh, scoring one on a walk and one on a wild pitch before Cyhowski got a pop out to close out the win.

Franklin Tech Summer League

Mahar 46, Franklin Tech 14 — Nevaeh Scribner put up 24 points, Taylor Paluk tossed in nine points, Hayden Comeau scored seven points while Thea Whitmore scored four points in the Senators’ victory over the Eagles in a Franklin Tech Girls Summer Basketball League contest on Thursday. 

Cordelia Guerin scored five points, Brayleigh Burgh tallied four points and Abi Dobias scored three points for Tech. 

Frontier 46, Athol 19 — Olivia Machon recorded 15 points, Raynor Loos and Harper Modestow each finished with eight points, Skyler Steele scored seven points while Claire Kirkendall had six points in the Redhawks’ win Thursday. 

Olivia Horrigan finished with 10 points and Abigayle Spooner had seven points for the Bears. 

Greenfield 21, Hopkins 20 — Gloria McDonald finished with 12 points and Anna Bucala tossed in five points in the Green Wave’s triumph over the Golden Hawks on Thursday. 

Anna Conklin scored 12 points and Chloe Kosciusko added four points for Hopkins. 

Pioneer 36, Greenfield 22 — In the final game of the night Addison Harrington tallied 12 points, Kyler McClelland scored 11 points, Natalie Rios had six points and Leah Potter added four points in the Panthers’ victory over the Green Wave. 

Tayler Bergeron finished with nine points and Bucala scored seven points for the Wave. 

Throughout the night, players, coaches and officials were treated to a meal that was donated and catered by Hotfire Bar and Grill owner Chad Flasinski.

Golf

Woods cards ace

Peter Woods sank his 10th career hole-in-one last weekend, accomplishing the feat at No. 11 at the Country Club of Greenfield. 

The shot came from 119 yards out using a 7 iron. John Cormican, Joe Viadero and Alan Blanker were witnesses. 

Bowling

Holly Brown rolled the women’s high single (105) and triple (275) in the Thursday Mini League at the Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley this past week. 

Kendall Schneider and Bob Piertrazek tied for the men’s high single (103) while Schneider had the men's high triple (298).
