Bulletin Board: Gary Tashjian, Cheri McCarthy win Twice As Smart Pickleball Tournament

Four Rivers Charter School student Sam Whitney hosted the Twice As Smart Pickleball Tournament on Saturday at Green River Park in Greenfield, raising $1,500 for “Twice as Smart,” a Greenfield based program that tutors and supports at-risk youth.
Twelve teams participated, with Gary Tashjian and Cheri McCarthy Monette defeating Barbara Killeen and Ken Cook in the championship game.
Baseball
Frontier 2, Nipmuc 0 — The Redhawks traveled out to Upton on Sunday and returned to South Deerfield with a 2-0 win over Div. 3 foe Nipmuc.
Wyatt Edes tossed six innings for Frontier, striking out six and scattering four hits. Tyler Cusson earned the save and didn’t allow a hit in the seventh. The Redhawks scored one in the fourth and one in the seventh.
Rosco Palmer knocked a single, a triple and tallied an RBI, Kaden James had a hit and an RBI while Jack Conlon and Edes each hit safely in the win.
Wrestling
Franklin Tech’s Landon Purington and Mohawk Trail’s Wade Purington competed in the 2024 Spartan Individual Challenge in Rutland, Vt. over the weekend, with Landon Purington taking first in the High School I Division with a trio of wins.

Here are the Deerfield Academy results from Saturday: baseball swept Dexter-Southfield (2-1, 12-3) in a doubleheader. Golf beat Taft (7.5-2.5), boys lacrosse beat Taft (15-3), girls lacrosse lost to Taft (10-6), softball lost to Taft (11-10), boys tennis lost to Phillips Andover (7-0) and girls tennis lost to Phillips Exeter (8-1).
Girls ultimate
Four Rivers 14, Northfield Mount Hermon 6 — Mabel Kingsley dished thre assists, Juna Gradick had five assists, Stella Langlands tallied two assists and three goals while Seneca Smith had one assist and three goals in the Otters’ win over NMH on Saturday.
Missy Finn and Ed Skorupski rolled the high single of 111 while Robby Wood and Nick Brown had the high triple of 288 in Sunday Scotch Doubles at the Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley this past week.
In the Tuesday Mini League Joannie Schwartz rolled the high single (95) and triple (258).
