Bulletin Board: Greenfield Post 81 takes both games in doubleheader against West Springfield

It was a road doubleheader against West Springfield Post 207 for the Greenfield Post 81 Senior Legion team on Monday, and Post 81 came away with a pair of victories.

Greenfield opened with a 3-1 win and followed it up with a 5-3 triumph. Both games were five-inning affairs. 

Ben Werner pitched all five innings for Post 81 in the opening game, striking out three and scattering five hits. Ethan Mauthe cracked a hit that drove in two and Sam Connors recorded a hit and an RBI. Werner helped himself with a pair of hits while Dylen Richardson, Braeden Tsipenyuk, Logan Moore and Jackson Glazier all hit safely in the victory. 

Mauthe stayed hot at the plate in the second game, knocking a single and a double to drive in two. Werner tallied a hit and drove in three runs, Luca Siano and Connors each cracked two hits while Daniel Bussard doubled in the win. 

Moore pitched the opening three innings and struck out one before Arthur Fitzpatrick and Connors each tossed an inning to close things out for Post 81. 

TennisGreenfield Tennis Cup

The Greenfield Tennis Cup, which has been postponed multiple times due to weather, is now scheduled for this Saturday, July 20, at 9:30 a.m. at the Beacon Clay Courts in Greenfield.

The tournament has separate men's and women's divisions and is open to all ages high school and above. It is a round robin tournament and tennis balls will be provided. The deadline to register is July 19 at 6 p.m. To register, call Rick Miner at 413-824-1695.

Grayson Thomas erupted for 38 points while Jon Breor tossed in 26 points, helping Greenfield beat Frontier, 106-52, in boys varsity action in the DRIVE League at Greenfield High School on Friday. 

Alex Ellis scored 19 points while Garrett Dredge added 12 points for the Redhawks. 

After, Fitch Meyer tossed in 21 points and Jamal Stanley added 14 points in Keene’s 88-32 win over Narragansett. Darren Smith scored 16 points in the loss. 

To close out the night, Jayden Delgado put up 24 points and Derek Collins added 16 points in Orange’s 68-38 triumph over Turners. Jackson Cogswell led the Thunder with nine points.
