It was an emphatic return to the win column for Greenfield Post 81 on Wednesday night.

After seeing its six-game winning streak halted by East Springfield on Monday, Post 81 rebounded in fine fashion with an 8-1 victory over the Wilbraham Falcons at Vets Field in Greenfield.

Greenfield improved to 7-3 overall, while Wilbraham fell to 8-5.

Tied 1-1 into the bottom of the fourth inning, Greenfield broke through with three runs to take control. Ben Werner roped an RBI single to break the deadlock, and Jackson Glazier followed with a two-run single to make it a 4-1 game.

Ethan Mauthe extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth, when he doubled home Daniel Bussard (walk) to make it 5-1.

A balk scored another run, then Werner drove in his second run of the contest with another single. Sam Connors made it 8-1 with an RBI single that plated Werner.

That was plenty for Post 81 starter Hugh Cyhowski. The right hander was dominant, striking out 11 in a complete-game masterpiece. The Pioneer graduate allowed just two hits and one run on four walks.

Mauthe led the charge with a 3-for-3 day, while Werner’s two hits and two RBIs also keyed the hosts. Post 81 racked up 10 hits, including a double by Michael Pierce. Daniel Bussard and Shane Bussard each scored twice in the win.

Post 81 is right back in action Thursday with a road game at Pittsfield. They’ll return home to host Sheffield on Friday.

Youth baseball

Valley Blue Sox clinic

The Valley Blue Sox will host a two-day baseball clinic for 6-13 year old July 15-16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. All children are invited to participate in this clinic where they will work on skills such as hitting, pitching and fielding with instruction from Blue Sox players and coaches.

The cost to participate in this two-day clinic is $60, or $50 for Franklin County’s YMCA members. To register your child go online (https://bit.ly/3xpuEMZ). The clinic will take place at Lunt Field (27 Kenwood Street in Greenfield). All players attending will receive complimentary tickets to a Valley Blue Sox home game, plus a free T-shirt.

Make sure to get registered and plan to arrive Monday morning with their glove, sunscreen, and water. Cleats and baseball hat are recommended but not required. Summer basketball

DRIVE Leagues

Grayson Thomas poured in a game-high 23 points, while Caleb Murray scored 21 points and Jon Breor added 16 to power Greenfield to a 71-51 win over Narragansett in a DRIVE League boys varsity basketball game on Tuesday in Greenfield.

Brayden Dowd went for 13 points to pace Narragansett, and Dimitri Donovan added 10.

• Elsewhere, Keene took down Brattleboro, 73-36, behind 25 points from Jamal Stanley and 10 from Fitch Hennessey.

Oscar Korson’s 15 points led Brattleboro.

• In other action, Orange received 19 points from Derek Collins and 14 from Jayden Delgado in a 56-37 win over Frontier.

Frontier’s Rowan Modestow (12 points) and Alex Ellis (10) paced their club.

Franklin County Tech League

Haleigh Benoit went for a team-high 12 points, and Brayleigh Burgh scored nine points as Franklin Tech captured a 33-27 win over Hopkins Academy in a Franklin Tech Girls Summer League contest on Tuesday in Turners Falls.

Hopkins Academy received a game-high 13 points from Juliana Eichenlaub, and six from Laynee Crutch.

■ Elsewhere, Mahar edged Pioneer 48-44 behind a 25-point performance from Hayden Comeau. Nevaeh Scribner scored 15 points in the victory.

Pioneer’s Kyler McClelland scored 14 points, Addison Harrington scored 13, and Leah Potter added nine.

■ In other action, Frontier cruised past Greenfield 41-14 behind 14 points from Skyler Steele and nine from Jazzy Hayes. Ashley Taylor added seven points and Elsa Brown tossed in six.

Greenfield’s Gloria McDonald led the way with six points, and Anna Bucala and Tayler Bergeron each scored four.

■ Frontier closed out the night by defeating Athol, 47-23, with Jazzy Hayes dropping a game-high 26 points.

Athol’s Ava Adams scored 11 points, and Olivia Horrigan added eight.

Golf

K of C League

Rusty Demers and Drew Powell tied for top marks with identical plus-5 point quotas during Wednesday’s Knights of Columbus Golf League at Thomas Memorial in Turners Falls.

Darren Lenois carded the low gross of 37, and also won a skin. Demers was closest to the pin at No. 7, firing a dart to 1 foot, 1 inch. Bill Roussel was closest at No. 9 (4-10).

Craig LeBlanc won the first half title for the league with a plus-17 quota.

CCG Women’s League

The Tuesday 18-Hole Women’s League played a Guys and Dolls format, and Terry Boyce teamed with Bill Young to shot 67 and snag low gross honors at the Country Club of Greenfield.

Barb Killeen and Jack Killeen shot 68 and tied for second with Teresa Varner and John Varner.

Low net went to two teams: Sue McDonald and Richard Rockstrah (56), and Susan Parker and Gordon Parker (56). Donna Mowry and Steve Gibowicz were third with a 57.

Youth softball

Franklin County Summer League

Havoc 10, Menace 9 – Lindsey Taylor clubbed a home run as part of a three-hit, three-RBI outing to help Havoc to a one-run win on Wednesday night at Murphy Park in Greenfield.

Lexi Hawkins also had three hits, including a triple, and drove in a pair of runs for Havoc. Laylah Goulston notched two hits.

Menace was powered by Raine Wonsey’s two hits and two runs scored. Delaney Fifield tripled and drove in a run, and Kennedy Unaitis singled and drove in three runs. 

Bombers 20, Fury 1 – Emmalyan Nash went 2-for-3 with two home runs (including an inside-the-parker) and six RBIs as the Bombers rolled on Wednesday.

Mia Shaw pitched three innings and allowed no hits while striking out eight. Sami LaFlesh tossed two innings, allowed one hit and struck out a pair. LaFlesh also smacked three hits.

Kiara Gruszkowski had a hit for Fury.
