Bulletin board: Montague Elks advance in Greenfield Coed Softball playoffs

Cam Woodward smacked three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs to help the Montague Elks get their postseason off to a strong start Tuesday night.

The Elks edged the Liberty Tax Sharks, 14-11, in a first round Greenfield Coed Softball League playoff game.

Other Elks stars included Ricky Craver (two doubles), Cassidy Snyder (two hits, two RBIs), Kyle Bergmann (two hits, two RBIs) and Meaghan Lumbis Breed (two hits, two RBIs).

The Liberty Tax Sharks received three hits apiece from Che Christi, Elyse Merrill and Robert Badillo (three RBIs). Cody Willor (double), Joe Guidaboni and Kyle Conway (double, two RBIs) all had two hits on the night.

The double-elimination tournament continues Wednesday and runs through the weekend.

Golf

CCG Women’s League

Teresa Varner set the pace at the Country Club of Greenfield’s 18-Hole Women’s League on Tuesday. Varner shot 83 for low gross honors in Flight One as the league played a ‘Four Clubs and a Putter’ format.

Nancy Donoghue (94) was second in the top flight, while Jane Smith had the low net score (67) and Ann McHugh was next at 74.

Flight Two was won by Dianne Wood (104), who edged Lane Kelly (105) for low gross honors. 

Donna Mowry had the low net (69), followed by Susan Parker (75).

Youth soccer

Montague Elks shoot

The Montague Elks Lodge 2521 will host a youth soccer shoot on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Franklin County Technical School in Turners Falls (82 Industrial Blvd.).

The event is open to boys and girls in two separate categories: ages 7 and under, and ages 8-15. Winners of each contest are eligible to advance to the next level of competition.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the event starts at 10. Age is determined as of Jan. 1, 2024. Proof of age is required, such as a birth certificate, baptismal record or passport. Any questions can be directed to Linda Morey (call or text) at 413-522-3145.
