New Salem’s Jack Reynolds continues to make a name for himself in the powerlifting community. 

Reynolds traveled to Austin, Texas for the 2024 Powerlifting American Bench Press Nationals on Jan. 27 and took first place in the 183 pounds sub-junior division with a top lift of 385.8 pounds. 

The lift set a new national record in the group by over 20 pounds. For this, he was awarded the top under-23 male lifter for the event.

The 2024 USA National Curling Championship wrapped up over the weekend, with Leyden’s Rebecca Rodgers and Team Strouse bowing out in the semifinals. 

Taking on Team Anderson in the semis on Saturday in New Jersey, Team Strouse pulled ahead, 7-5, after the seventh end. It was all Team Anderson from there however, as Team Strouse didn’t get on the board over the final three ends while Team Anderson scored three in the eighth, two in the ninth and one in the 10th to walk away with an 11-7 victory. 

Team Anderson ended up falling to Team Peterson in the finals. It was the second straight national championship for Team Peterson.

The FCHA 10U White squad played a pair of games over the weekend, earning wins over Ludlow (8-4) and the Junior Yellow Jackets (3-1). 

Shaye Tyler had a hat trick, Grayson Boron knocked in two goals while Noah Stoffolano, Harper Coffin and Brantley Godfrey also scored in the win over Ludlow. Jacoby Houle, Godfrey and Brody Suhl provided assists. 

Lucas Edson got the win in goal against the Yellow Jackets while Boron, Lucas Edson and Godfrey had the goals.
