Bulletin Board: Orange’s Mitchell Krasco places first in triple jump at Bay State Games

The 2024 Bay State Games track and field finals took place on Saturday at Regis College in Weston, and Orange’s Mitchell Krasco walked away with a first place finish.
Krasco hit the mark of 43 feet, 1.25 inches in the triple jump, earning him a first place finish on the boys side in the Scholastic Division. Krasco also took eighth in the 110 hurdles (16.35 seconds).
Also on the boys side in the Scholastic Division, Greenfield’s Mason Youmell placed 10th in the 110 hurdles (16.83), seventh in the triple jump (37-4) and fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:11.34). Leyden’s Griffin Moore earned 10th in the shot put (34-8) and 11th in discus (85-3) while Orange’s Mathieu Soucy came in 17th in the 100 (11.69) and 10th in the 200 (24.0).
On the girls side in the Scholastic Division, Orange’s Stellina Moore placed fourth in the pole vault (9-0). South Deerfield’s Madelyn Antes placed ninth in 200 (30.29), seventh in the high jump (4-4) and third in the 400 hurdles (1:20.95) while Sunderland’s Failine Zinn-Keane took 11th in the 100 (14.49) and seventh in the long jump (14-3.75).
On the men’s side in the Open Division, Greenfield’s Nick Jablonski earned seventh in the shot put (38-8) and second in discus (135-11).
Valley Youth Sports camp
Valley Youth Sports Association is holding its second annual youth basketball camp next month, running from Aug. 5-8 at Smith Academy in Hatfield.
The camp is co-ed and open for those ages 7-14. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon, with all skill levels welcome. Camp slots are limited. The cost is $115 for all four days. Thomas Memorial club
championship
Jeff Jackman carded a two-round total of 146, besting the field to capture the men’s title in the club championship at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls over the weekend.
Jackman posted rounds of 75 and 71 to secure the men’s title by eight strokes. Bob Bourbeau won a match of cards to take second place (77-77—154), with Paul Barnard finishing third (76-78—154). Jack Day was fourth on the men’s side (75-84—159).
Low net on the men’s side went to Jon Snow (67-70—137), followed by Jake Sisson in second place (69-69—138).
Robin Hartnett won the women’s club championship thanks to a two-round total of 192 after posting rounds of 95 and 97.
Terry Adams was the runner-up (107-112—219), and Elena Gordievsky finished third (127-116—243).
Crumpin-Fox Couples
Championship
Michael Mertes and Jill Mertes shot the low gross of 65 to win the championship in the Crumpin-Fox Club’s Open Couples Championship over the weekend.
Carl Hoynoski and Jodi Hornoski shot the low net of 65. The format was scramble on the front nine and best ball on the back nine.
CCG 200 Club
Brian Luippold, Sue Luippold, Norm Morris, Bob Welsh, Kevin Piecuch and Sean Doyle shot the low gross of 52 in a 200 Club Summer Scramble at Country Club of Greenfield over the weekend.
The team of Barb Killeen, John Johnson, Rich Clark, Aaron Campbell, Brady Booska and Jack Killeen took second (55) while Tom Herzig, Terry Boyce, Lana O’Connor, John Missale, Judy Strong and Danica Hochstetler placed third (56).
The team of Nancy Donoghue, Dave Donoghue, Dan Donoghue, Tom Coffin, Pat Coffin and Elaine Goodhind tied with the teams of George Lacroix, Butch Lacroix, Matt Hall, Donna Mowry, Mya Keesee and Mike Keesee as well as Josh Cady, Wes Cady, Ben Poirier, Jeff Poirier and Alex Savchuk for the low net (51).
Greenfield Elks League
Bill Erman and Paul Viens took first with 73 points in the Greenfield Elks League last week.
Keith Schempp and John Stacy tied with Joe Lachance and Bill Martin for second (70.5) while Mike Larabee and Tom Rogers placed third (69.5).
FC Summer League
Menace 8, Fury 1 — Kylee Gamache doubled and drove in two runs, while Amelia Rider slashed a pair of hits to power Menace to a victory at Murphy Park on Monday.
Raine Wonsey was dominant in the pitching circle, striking out 15 batters while allowing just one hit in six innings.
Ameliyah Galbraith tripled for Fury and Maggie Tsipenyuk drove in the team’s lone run.
Flyers 12, Defenders 3 — Lauren Helie drove in two while Brayleigh Burgh, Emma Petersen, Sara Curtis, Ariel Peters and Carsyn Bauer hit safely in the Flyers’ win Monday.
Molly Gouin drove in a run while Gianna DiSciullo hit safely for the Defenders.
Menace 15, Wolfpack 0 — Charlie Vera-Fellows recorded a trio of hits and RBIs, Kylee Gamache tallied two hits and three RBIs while Amelia Rider, Adelaide Ehle and Ava Eddy each had a hit and an RBI in the Menace’s victory on Monday.
Raine Wonsey struck out nine and scattered one hit in the win. Callie Edwards had the Wolfpack’s lone hit.
Greenfield coed
RG Penfield 12, Liberty Tax Sharks 11 — Niiko Langlois (three hits), Justin Nash (three hits, three RBIs), Dustin Olsen (single, triple) and Tom Anderson (single, triple) led RG Penfield to victory on Monday over the Sharks.
Kyle Conway (three hits, two RBIs), Jade Cuevas (two hits) and Matt Gibson (single, home run, four RBI) played well in the loss.
Liberty Tax Sharks 35, Farmers United 6 — Matt Gibson (five RBI), Storm Cindir and Marcy Conway (three RBI) each had four hits in the Sharks’ win last week.
Keith Broussard had three hits while Anna Osnow and Annie Thompson both had two hits in the loss.
