BERNARDSTON — With the local Cub Scout troop’s sponsorship set to end in December, the Bernardston Kiwanis Club is raising money to support the group through a traditional chicken pot pie dinner.

On Saturday, March 25, folks can stop by the United Church of Bernardston at 58 Church St. for a meal and conversation with friends, all while raising money for Chris Fontaine’s Cub Scouts troop, which has kids from Greenfield, Gill, Turners Falls, Hatfield and several other towns.

“They’re going to lose their sponsorship at the end of the year and we’d like to help with that,” said Bernardston Kiwanis Club member Dan Devine. “We’d hate to see kids have to put up extra money.”

The meal will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with continuous serving available. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children. Takeout options are also available. A meal includes chicken pot pie, butternut squash, cranberry sauce, a roll, drinks and homemade carrot cake.

Money raised will help to financially support the Cub Scouts and may also go toward rehabilitating the buildings and land at the troop’s meeting place, Camp Avery on Scout Road in Greenfield.

“We’re going to try and help them out as best as we can,” Devine said.

The Kiwanis Club has worked with the Cub Scouts in the past and Devine said members would like to rebuild that connection with this fundraiser. Scouts will be present at the dinner to greet attendees and discuss the activities they do.

The Kiwanis Club expects to give out more than 100 meals. This is the third of four chicken pot pie dinners, which are held on the last Saturday of January, February, March and April. Previous dinners this year raised money for the Pioneer Valley Regional School band and the Kiwanis Club’s annual activities.
