SHELBURNE — Learn photography skills with master printmaker John Marcy during a workshop and reception on Nov. 2 at the Fabric of Life Homestead.

John Marcy has been a photographer and printmaker for over 40 years and holds a masters in photography from Yale. Marcy’s work, including examples of his landscapes, portraits, darkroom and digitally made prints will be on display  at Fabric of Life at 80 Bassett Road from 1 to 3 p.m.

“He’s been a photographer and printmaker for over 40 years and has been featured in the National Gallery of Art and National Geographic,” said Sara Davis, Fabric of Life’s marketing and programs director. “It should be a really interesting event and anyone interested in photography should come hear about his life’s work.”

Marcy’s work has ranged in style and focus over the years as he’s explored mediums and brought his camera along for journeys around the world. Some of the prints on display capture his travels to Texas, Newfoundland, and Iceland.

“His work in black-and-white printmaking for important contemporary and historically important photographers has been exhibited in many venues, including The Museum of Modern Art, The Wadsworth Atheneum, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, The Worcester Art Museum, a traveling exhibition for the National Geographic Society, and the National Gallery of Art,” Davis noted.

The reception is free to attend and prints of Marcy’s work will be available to purchase.

Prior to the public reception Marcy will lead a sold-out workshop on digital printmaking. Marcy will guide participants through his editing process on Photoshop and give advice on their own images and projects.

Davis said there is a waitlist for the workshop, but all are invited to attend the reception to see some of Marcy’s work.
