Dec. 10: Cookie Tasting & Recipe Exchange

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library invites the community to participate in its annual Holiday Cookie Tasting & Recipe Exchange on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m. The program is intended for ages 14 and older.

Participants can sign up to bring three or four dozen of their favorite cookies to share, along with the accompanying recipe. Each attendee will go home with a plate of assorted cookies and a collection of new recipes to try for the holidays.

Space is limited and advance registration is required. Registration ends on Wednesday, Dec. 4. To sign up, visit forms.gle/kPrqW7TdvP7brqGL6.

Brown bag program returns Dec. 5

GREENFIELD — The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts’ monthly brown bag program for income-qualifying seniors will be held at The Weldon apartments at 54 High St. on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Tech Foundry leading workshop on career search skills

GREENFIELD — Tech Foundry will lead a workshop on improving career search skills at the Greenfield Public Library on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 10:30 a.m.

This program, intended for ages 16 and up, will equip participants with tools and strategies to navigate today’s competitive job market. Learn how to effectively craft a resume, ace job interviews, build a strong professional network and leverage online platforms for maximum impact.

Dec. 6: Violin concert

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Senior Center invites the community to enjoy music by the Agape Violinists, students of Christine Johnson, ages 8 to 14, and members of the Moldovian Baptist Church during a free concert on Friday, Dec. 6, from 2:15 to 3 p.m. They will perform traditional hymns and more in three-part harmony.

Teens selling goods at pop-up market

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library will host a pop-up market as part of Franklin First Federal Credit Union’s “Young People Business Program” on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Young People Business Program teaches financial literacy through entrepreneurship for youth ages 12 to 14. The pop-up market will sell items that were made by the teens participating in the program, such as hot cocoa bombs, handmade crocheted characters and handcrafted necklaces.

Make mini winter cottages with Faith Reipold

GREENFIELD — Faith Reipold, creator of the flipped dollhouses displayed in the Greenfield Public Library’s Makerspace throughout the summer, will teach participants ages 13 and older how to create a tiny winter cottage and snowy scene using recycled materials. The program will be held at the library on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 5:30 p.m.

Author of ‘Stories Told in a Lost Tongue’ coming to library

GREENFIELD — Local author Elaine Harootunian Reardon will visit the Greenfield Public Library on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. to read from and speak about her book, “Stories Told in a Lost Tongue.”

A story of immigration and assimilation spanning three generations, the book is an exploration of heritage and healing found in everyday rituals. There is a teller of fortunes, a monk who travels with a donkey, and the tastes and smells at the kitchen table as cooking raises memories of loved ones.

“Stories Told in a Lost Tongue” is Harootunian Reardon’s third book of poetry. She is the author of two previous chapbooks, “The Heart is a Nursery for Hope,” published in 2016, and “Look Behind You,” published in 2019.

Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Parking free through Dec. 26

GREENFIELD — Mayor Ginny Desorgher has announced that parking is free in all municipal parking lots through Thursday, Dec. 26.

Parking lots included among municipal parking areas is the City Hall Parking Lot, the Legion Lot, the Ames Street Lot, the Chapman/Davis Street Lot and the Miles Street Parking Lot. The Olive Street Parking Garage and on-street metered parking spots are not included.

Normal parking conditions will be restored on the morning of Friday, Dec. 27.

“The holiday season is the perfect time for shopping and leisure in Greenfield,” Desorgher said in a statement. “We hope that free parking in our municipal lots will encourage everyone to shop, dine and explore all that downtown Greenfield has to offer.”

Weekly gift-making sessions offered for teens

GREENFIELD — Weekly gift-making sessions intended for teens ages 10 to 18 are being held at the Greenfield Public Library on Thursdays from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

A different craft is planned each week, with beeswax candles on Dec. 5, Shrinky Dink jewelry on Dec. 12 and greeting cards on Dec. 19. Snacks and beverages are included.

Dusti Dufresne to perform at Senior Center

GREENFIELD — Dusti Dufresne will perform a mix of classic and popular tunes at the Greenfield Senior Center on Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 2 to 3 p.m.

Dufresne covers hits from the 1920s to the 1970s. A professional in the music business for 33 years, she has produced two CDs: “Songs to Remember” and “Seasons to Remember.”

GREENFIELD — Social worker Matt Aversa will lead “Connections,” a group exploring ways to be proactive about making connections with others, at the Greenfield Senior Center on Thursday, Dec. 19, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Dec. 20: Death Cafe

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Senior Center will host a Death Cafe on Friday, Dec. 20, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The objective of a Death Cafe is to increase awareness of death, with a goal of helping people make the most of their lives. A Death Cafe is a group-directed discussion on death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session.

Library issues call for art

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library invites Franklin County artists to submit applications to showcase their artwork at the library.

The library’s exhibit spaces, located in the conference, meeting and children’s rooms, are designed to feature two-dimensional art, though three-dimensional works will also be considered.
