GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect accused of stealing a deposit bag filled with $1,464 from the Taco Bell/Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on the Mohawk Trail on Tuesday.

The department posted to its Facebook page on Thursday a picture of a man believed to be roughly 40 to 45 years old and from Springfield. The post states the suspect goes by the nickname “Chi” or “Chi-town” because he has ties to Chicago. Greenfield Police Lt. Todd Dodge previously told the Greenfield Recorder that a restaurant employee had assembled a deposit bag filled with money and placed it on a counter, tucked away but still visible. The employee reportedly turned around to retrieve a food order and a man placed the bag under his shirt before fleeing from the building with two other people at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

Two men and a woman were seen fleeing the fast food restaurant with the deposit bag and leaving in a silver Nissan Sentra. Dodge said the suspects were described as dark-skinned, with the men having facial tattoos and dreadlocks.

Dodge noted the crime committed was larceny, as robbery is defined as the taking of property from a person through force or the threat of force. Larceny is a felony if the goods or money stolen is valued at more than $1,200.
