MacKenzie Paulin’s play on the softball field has given her the opportunity to fundraise for “A Shot For Life.”
A Shot For Life is a sports-based non-profit organization that funds health and cancer research initiatives. Paulin, who helped lead the Greenfield softball team to MIAA Division 5 state championships in 2022 and 2023, as well as a Western Mass. Class C championship this past spring, was selected to be part of the A Shot For Life family program and will be participating in the ASFL Home Run Derby and Pitchers Challenge.
“It means so much to me,” Paulin said. “I’m blessed to have the opportunity to fundraise for such a good cause.”
The A Shot For Life program is an All-Star program that chooses the best players in Massachusetts. The ASFL Home Run Derby and Pitcher Challenge is slated for Aug. 31 at New England Baseball Complex in Northborough.
Paulin has committed to a $1,000 fundraising minimum, though the goal is to raise even more. The money raised will benefit the Dr. Curry Research Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital.
“We went to an orientation and saw how many families are affected by this,” Paulin said. “I’m blessed to participate in fundraising for the cause. They’ve been one of the biggest breakthroughs in cancer research. It’s great knowing your fundraising for such a good cause.”
Donations can be made online (www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MjExOTg3). To donate in Paulin’s name, type her name in the donation section that says “message of support.” Donations by check can be made out to A Shot For Life, Inc.
