HS Roundup: Frontier girls soccer nets seven goals in win over Pathfinder

It’s been an offensive explosion to start the year for the Frontier girls soccer team. 

In their first four games of the season, the Redhawks have outscored opponents 30-1 to open with a 4-0 record. 

The offensive onslaught continued on Monday against Pathfinder. Carly Robertson and Skyler Steele led the way with two goals and an assist each, as Frontier rolled to a 7-1 victory in Thorndike. 

Maddie Fagan contributed one goal and two assists while Calli Gifford and Jazzy Hayes also found the back of the net for the Redhawks. Aylen Shaw stopped six shots in goal in the win. 

Boys soccer

PVCICS 1, Athol 0 —Teddy Scott scored six minutes into the second half for the Dragons and the Bears were unable to answer, with Athol falling at home Monday. 

Drake Wing made 11 saves for the Bears. 

Greenfield 1, Gateway 0 — Clivens Carter Michel scored 20 minutes into the contest and the Green Wave defense did their job the rest of the way, with Greenfield picking up a victory in Huntington on Monday night. 

Caleb Thomas had the assist on Carter Michel’s goal while Liam Grahame-Lawson stopped all 13 shots he faced in goal.

Granby 1, Pioneer 1 — Judah Glenn continued his scoring tear for the Panthers, scoring in the first half for Pioneer’s lone goal of the game as the Panthers played to a draw with the Rams in Northfield Monday. 

The goal was Glenn’s seventh in his last three games, with Alex McClelland credited with the assist. 

Gavin Gammell made seven saves in goal for the Panthers. 

Golf

Franklin Tech 167, Turners 216 — Grady Deery fired a 37 — helped by a birdie on No. 5 where he punched his approach under a pine tree but was able to hole a 10-foot putt — while Gabe Mota shot a 39 in the Eagles’ victory over the Thunder at Thomas Memorial on Monday. 

Darian Burnett was Turners’ low scorer with a 46.

Frontier 154, Hampshire 165 — Ryan Cetto was the match medalist with a 37 while Cam Skiffington and Brady Wood each carded a 38 in the Redhawks’ triumph over the Raiders  on Monday at Beaver Brook Golf Club. 

Jacob Cornelison rounded out the Frontier scoring with a 41. 

Field hockey

Belchertown 4, Franklin Tech 1 — Four different Orioles lit up the scoreboard on Monday, as Belchertown earned a County League victory over the Eagles in Belchertown. 

Hannah Gilbert scored for Tech off an assist from Katy Lengieza. Madison Markwell made three saves in the loss.

Here are the Deerfield Academy results from Saturday: field hockey beat Berkshire (3-0), boys soccer beat Salisbury (5-1) while volleyball beat NHM (2-0) and Austin Prep (2-0). 

The Northfield Mount Hermon girls cross country team competed at the 2024 Brush Invitational at Deerfield Academy, with Joelle Yang taking fourth and Rose Wu placing fifth. 

Cross country

Both the Frontier and Mohawk Trail cross country teams competed at the Ted Dutkiewicz Invitational at Stanley Park on Saturday, with the Redhawk boys placing first and the Frontier girls taking third. 

Frontier’s Sylvie DiBartolomeo placed fifth (20 minutes, 57 seconds) while Mohawk Trail’s Virginia Krezmien placed sixth (21:24) in the girls 5K. Frontier’s Kali Beam placed second in the girls’ 2,414 meter run (11:00). 

Redhawk Evan Hedlund won the boys 5K (16:27) while Luke Howard took third (16:55) and Mohawk Trail’s Peter Healy placed ninth (17:54). In the boys’ 2,414 meter run Warrior Rex Kuoppala took first (8:28) while Mohawk Trail’s Aymeric Loucka placed second (8:30) and Warrior Carson Richardson placed fifth (8:45).
