Josie Silva: Voting age impacts voter turnout

I am a student at Frontier Regional School. One reason that I think the voting age should be lowered is that around here, participation in town elections has been very low. Changing the age of voting eligibility would mean that not only would the teenagers vote, but they will probably bring their parents, who may or may not have voted otherwise. This would meaningfully increase the number of voters and opinions from a more diverse group of people. Also, some of the votes impact the schools. Since the 16- and 17-year-olds are the ones who are most affected by the result of the votes, they should be able to vote on those matters. Please attend Sunderland, Deerfield, Conway and Whately annual Town Meetings to support lowering the municipal voting to 16.
