Maribeth Oakes: What lies ahead

The D-Day letters and accounts from World War II veterans was very moving. My dad was a WWII veteran and he would be rolling over in his grave at the mess this country is in right now. Our brave veterans fought for freedom and to rid the world of the evil, hate, racism and oppression of Hitler and the Nazis. Hitler was a charismatic, narcissistic, despot who demanded unfailing loyalty and was a bully. Sound familiar?

Trump has insulted our soldiers and veterans as “losers” and “suckers.” How incredibly sad that our commander-in-chief could utter these words. We have a bully running for president right now. Anyone who doesn’t agree or suggests he own up to his transgressions is picking on him. He is paranoid and blames everyone else for his shortcomings. It doesn’t matter how ill-equipped he is to be our president, as long as he is a Republican, all the Republican sheep will vote for him.

Folks, he is a felon. Can you imagine the chaos he will create again with our allies, if we have any left after he insults them too? I am an Independent and would prefer a Democrat that is a bit younger but at least Biden is honest, not a womanizer and has integrity. He’s not perfect but he is a true patriot. Think about what is best for our country, our people and our future. And it’s not Trump. I don’t think our country or this world could survive another Hitler. And he’s right here in the Republican Party. I think it may have been writer Daniel Brown, in one of his columns, who said, “Who would you rather vote for, a grandfather or a felon?”

I know who I would vote for and it’s not a felon. Think carefully and vote the man not the party. God Bless America.
