Russell Pirkot: Something to think about

Here’s something to think about, what would we do if both Joe Biden and Donald Trump died in their sleep tonight, of natural causes? Seriously, what would we, as individuals and institutions, do if that happened? I’m not asking for this, or suggesting that it should happen, but we do know that everybody is going to die someday. So, what would we do?
Joe Biden is the current president, so I assume Kamala Harris, the current vice president, would immediately be sworn in as the acting president, at least until after the election in November. But would she automatically become the Democratic candidate for that election, or would it be someone else? I have my guesses, but I don’t know for a fact.
And what about for the Republicans? Right now it sure looks like Donald Trump is going to get the nomination for the election. But if he were gone, who would take his place? Nikki Haley? Ron DeSantis? Somebody else? I’m not aware of any other Republicans on the national stage who have the kind of devoted following that Donald Trump has, so who would his millions of supporters choose to vote for instead? Whoever it would be most likely would have a different personality, and other things to say about, well, just about everything!
By the time this gets published, maybe all of these questions won’t be so relevant. But for now at least, it does give us something to think about.
