Tom Peabody: Is the U.S. doomed?

As I sit and watch news on different channels, I have lost my faith in the good old US of A. I believe former president Donald Trump will win this election, but I don’t think he can save this country anymore.

My reasoning? First, and most importantly, we have abandoned God. We have taken him out of our government and our schools and anyone trying to be a believer is ostracized. Along with that is the breakdown of the family. A man and a woman (sorry, I know the difference) having children and bringing them up together with respect for authority and becoming working contributors to our society is no longer the norm.

Our schools aren’t proud of teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic but what social issues they want the kids to address or whether they are a boy or a girl. Then you look at national issues like defund the police (has that worked anywhere?) an open border that is hurting us in so many ways, legalization of drugs (check out the Oregon mess), and it’s depressing.

Throw in the attacks on our history and Constitution and it gets scary. Tear down our statues, remove the names of our national heroes from everything, take the flag away from schools or buildings, I could go on and on.

Then look at what the liberal/socialist left wants to do to anything in their way — pack the Supreme Court because they disagree with some decision, do away with the Electoral College because they lost an election, change the number of senators from each state because the liberal/left states need more power. It becomes absolutely scary.

Being at the age where I probably won’t see the outcome of all this, I feel really sad for my kids and grandkids. I will pray tonight and for the next couple months that Donald Trump wins and starts a tsunami of conservative beliefs and that our country hasn’t been lost.
