Regarding the recent letter “Real Americans will be voting for Trump” [Oct. 11], “real Americans” are not those who vote for Donald Trump. Nor is the purpose of this election “to make liberals weep,” as another writer put it earlier this year.

A real American, a true American, a patriot, is informed about issues, knows how to separate fact from disinformation, has read — as well as comprehended — the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, and understands the doctrine of separation of powers. I’d suggest, from the letter (name-calling, the bully’s substitute for reason, and absolute lack of fact-checking), that the writer has done none of those.

I’d further suggest that just about any naturalized citizen understands our government better than the letter writer. They study to earn their citizenship and the right to live governed by laws rather than autocrats. The letter writer squanders both.
