Bob Dickerman: Work needed to resist fascism

Here are some comments on resisting the rise of Trump’s fascism.
First, we shouldn’t despair or give up. Democracy must be constantly maintained, kind of like your car, only a lot more important. So, we have to keep working on it.
As Hitler did almost a century ago, Trump will attempt to crush dissent by censoring or even eliminating legitimate journalism outlets — like this newspaper, for example. Censorship may be enforced by federal agents, but be informed by local snitches.
To push back, if you think your local newspaper has been even-handed in this debate, then support it.
If you see something printed in the newspaper or posted on social media that is wrong, call it out. For example, The Recorder recently published a statement by a local Republican in a news article on the election, in which he said, with feigned distress, “I hate to think it, but I think that Biden and his team deliberately trashed the country.” This statement is simultaneously dumb, cult-like, and fascist. How would “deliberately trashing the country” help Biden and the Democrats politically?
Trump may mandate an official system of “poll watchers” and “poll-watcher-watchers” to intimidate certain groups of voters. This we may have to endure until after the midterm elections.
To resist misogyny, some women are contemplating the South Korean feminist 4B movement. If you are considering 4B, please be careful.
On the bright side, we still have some very smart, hard-working, good people in Congress, like U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern. And remember, some of the Trump cult insanity will ultimately neutralize itself. After Trump installs wingnuts like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as his “health” czar and Elon Musk as his “government efficiency” czar, executes Project 2025, and passes a complete ban on abortion, there is going to be serious backlash, including among diehard Trump cult members.
