Although I sympathize with those who yearn for open primaries and agree that we need nationwide standards for federal elections, I would caution the letter writer who advocated not voting in the hope that the system would collapse to be careful what she wishes for. Not voting or voting third party is how we got Donald Trump, and collapsing the system, all of it, is exactly what the Trumpers want. And, trust me, they don’t intend to replace it with anything pretty, rather with something resembling a fascist dictatorship. January 6, 2021, left no doubt about that.

Our democracy is struggling under the weight of an imperfect Constitution and a manipulative, totally unregulated digital environment. Not voting will only make it worse.
