Providing dignity to women and girls

On Saturday, Feb. 11, volunteers of all ages met at the Palmer Public Library Community Room to assemble over 550 “period kits” which will be distributed to organizations serving women and girls in poverty, dealing with homelessness, or fleeing domestic violence. Especially during inflationary times, it’s extremely hard to deal with the monthly financial and physical burden of a period. Products are costly and are not covered by SNAP or WIC. The Zonta Club of Quaboag Valley sponsors the annual Period Project to raise awareness and encourage the donation of products to shelters and food banks throughout the year. Thanks to the drop-off locations listed at zontaqv.org/period, to the library staff for pitching in, and to all the volunteers who made this year’s service project such a great success.
