TURNERS FALLS — The United Arc’s Advocacy Committee, along with the Franklin County League of Women Voters, will hold an educational session regarding election candidates, their positions on different topics and the ballot questions on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The United Arc’s offices on Avenue A in Turners Falls.
According to The United Arc, event organizers aim to provide information in an unbiased manner. The Advocacy Committee has worked to make the information accessible to people of all backgrounds and abilities.

MONTAGUE — Several local speakers will be part of an event detailing the cultural history of the Montague Plains Wildlife Management Area on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Starting at 11 a.m., participants will embark on a walk from the parking area at the power lines on Old Northfield Road, 0.3 miles from the intersection with Lake Pleasant Road. The event is expected to continue until 1 p.m.
Speakers include Joe Graveline, former Nolumbeka Project president who is of Cherokee and Abenaki descendant; Michael Kellett, executive director of RESTORE: The North Woods; and Bill Stubblefield, biologist and forest advocate from Wendell. They will talk about the area’s history, pine barren restoration, tree cutting and mowing, controlled burning, herbicide application, costs and benefits of forest management, and more.
TURNERS FALLS — Greenfield Savings Bank at 282 Avenue A will host Jamie Simpson of Birch Tree Bodywork for a demonstration on bodywork, a stress reduction method, on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Simpson will demonstrate bodywork basics and teach simple techniques to curb stress. Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing.

Hydrant flushing starts Oct. 28
ERVING — The Erving Water Department will be flushing hydrants starting Monday, Oct. 28, and will continue until flushing is completed. Flushing will be conducted between 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
