Barton Cove boat ramp closing

GILL — The boat ramp at Barton Cove will temporarily close for construction starting Monday, Oct. 7.

According to a post on the Gill Police Department’s Facebook page, the parking lot will be resurfaced for around two weeks, but weather may impact the duration of the closure. While the ramp in Gill is closed, the Northfield boat ramp will remain open.

Walk, Bike & Roll Event set for Oct. 2

TURNERS FALLS — The Gill-Montague Regional School District’s Sheffield and Hillcrest Elementary schools are teaming up to hold a Walk, Bike & Roll Event beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Families can meet at either the Montague Elks Lodge or the Montague Public Safety Complex to walk or bike to school together. All Hillcrest and Sheffield families, including students who take the bus and those who live in other towns, are welcome to meet at these locations to take part.

This event is supported by the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School program administered by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

Weekly program offered for grandparents raising teens

TURNERS FALLS — The Brick House Community Resource Center and the Montague Council on Aging are offering a six-session program for grandparents raising teens.

The program will run weekly on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the first five sessions beginning Oct. 8. The last session will be on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Most sessions will be at the Gill-Montague Senior Center at 62 Fifth St. and a couple sessions will be at The Brick House at 24 Third St.

Box Shop Duo to perform at Discovery Center

TURNERS FALLS — The Box Shop Duo will perform at the Great Falls Discovery Center, 2 Avenue A, on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m.

The Box Shop Duo consists of singer-songwriters Gene Stamell and Mitch Mulholland. They perform original songs and folk-style covers, with some blues and rock, both humorous and serious. Accompanied by acoustic guitars, most of their songs are performed as a duo, while some are solo.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. There is a suggested sliding-scale donation of $6 to $15. Children will be admitted for free.

Coffee, tea and baked refreshments will be available. Donations help the Friends of the Great Falls Discovery Center provide free nature programming for the public.
