Eastern European Jewish dance music coming to park

TURNERS FALLS — Eastern European Jewish dance band Myrtle Street Klezmer will perform at Peskeomskut Park on Thursday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Myrtle Street Klezmer is “an ecstatic, experimental exploration into the past, present and future of klezmer, an instrumental musical tradition of the Ashkenazi Jews of Central and Eastern Europe,” according to the event announcement. Clarinetist Jason Ditzian, who led San Francisco-based klezmer ensemble Kugelplex for more than 20 years, leads Myrtle Street Klezmer alongside Myk Freedman (guitar), Jesse Olsen Bay (percussion, bouzouki, bass, guitar, vocals), Doug Plavin (percussion), Dan Baker (tuba) and Marié Abe (accordion).

Skeleton Crew Theater performing throughout August

GILL — Skeleton Crew Theater will have summer shows during the first two weeks of August.

“Imagine encountering all four trolls, two talking trees, two witches, a pirate skeleton, a glowing pumpkin patch, a giant spider and many other larger-than-life puppet creatures all brought to life by the talented crew of Turners Falls high schoolers,” Skeleton Crew Theater founder Jonathan Chappell wrote. “This immersive theater experience will take you on a magical, tea-lit trail, where you’ll solve challenges, answer riddles and uncover the night’s big mystery.”

Show dates, on Thursday through Saturday, include Aug. 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12. To secure tickets and select a time slot between 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., visit skeletoncrewtheater.com. Performances will be held on Chappell Drive, across from Barton Cove.

Admission, which is by donation, will support insurance and production costs for the upcoming outdoor Halloween show at Ja’Duke Center for the Performing Arts.

Erving looking to fill vacancies

ERVING — The town is looking to fill one vacancy on the School Committee, one vacancy on the Planning Board and the tree warden position.

These vacancies are for elected positions. In accordance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter 41, Section 11, the Selectboard is seeking residents to serve in these positions until the 2024 town election. To be eligible, interested individuals must be registered voters in Erving.

Those who are interested should send a written letter that includes a name, address, contact information and the town position of interest. Inclusion of education, training, experience and other interests that would lend themselves to the position sought is also encouraged.

Letters of interest are due by Tuesday, Aug. 15, and can be sent to the Selectboard, 12 East Main St., Erving, MA 01344. Alternatively, letters can be emailed to volunteer@erving-ma.gov.

Gill-Montague School Committee looks to fill two vacancies

MONTAGUE — There are open seats for two Montague residents on the Gill-Montague Regional School District School Committee.

Interested Montague residents should email Executive Assistant to the Superintendent Tara McCarthy at tara.mccarthy@gmrsd.org or send a letter to McCarthy at 35 Crocker Ave., Turners Falls, MA 01376, by Monday, Aug. 7. The committee will consider potential candidates at its meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 8.
