School Committee seeks Montague representative

MONTAGUE — There is an open seat for a Montague representative on the Gill-Montague Regional School District School Committee.

Interested Montague residents should email Executive Assistant Tara McCarthy at tara.mccarthy@gmrsd.org or send a letter to Tara McCarthy, 35 Crocker Ave., Turners Falls, MA 01376, by Monday, Dec. 16, so the School Committee can consider potential candidates at its Tuesday, Dec. 17, meeting.

Montague police chief contract extended

MONTAGUE — Town Administrator Walter Ramsey announced during Monday’s Selectboard meeting that Police Chief Christopher Williams and the town entered contract negotiations, and Williams’ contract has been extended until June 2025.

Williams was not present at the meeting, but Ramsey explained that the Selectboard and Williams entered an executive session at the end of the Dec. 2 meeting, during which the agreement was made to extend the contract. Another meeting will take place in the spring of 2025 to negotiate another three-year contract.

Ellis and Wyngowski to perform at Pioneer Valley Brewery

TURNERS FALLS — Steve Ellis and Bob Wyngowski of AfterGlo will perform a free acoustic rock show on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Pioneer Valley Brewery, located at 151 Third St.

Make gingerbread houses at Great Falls Discovery Center

TURNERS FALLS — Families with children ages 3 to 16 are invited to make gingerbread houses at the Great Falls Discovery Center, located at 2 Avenue A, on Saturday, Dec. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m.

People are invited to build an easy gingerbread house, using graham crackers and an assortment of candy. The program is sponsored by the Montague Public Libraries.

Class of 2026 hosting ‘Breakfast with Santa’

TURNERS FALLS — The Turners Falls High School Class of 2026 will host a “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday, Dec. 21, starting at 9 a.m. at the Montague Elks Lodge, located at 1 Elks Ave.

Pancakes, bacon and eggs will be served alongside juice and coffee. Holiday crafts and photos with Santa will also be available. The cost is $10 per plate for adults and children ages 13 and up, $5 for children ages 5 to 12, and kids under 5 years old can eat for free.

Proceeds benefit the Class of 2026, which is raising money for prom, graduation, the class gift and a senior trip.

Ja’Duke Theater presents ‘Beauty and the Beast’

TURNERS FALLS — JaDuke Theater at 110 Industrial Blvd. will host performances of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” from Friday, Dec. 20, through Sunday, Dec. 22.

This musical is based on the animated Disney movie. The show is directed by Nick Waynelovich and “promises to be a spellbinding experience, blending romance, adventure and charm,” an event announcement from Ja’Duke Theater reads. “Audiences will be transported to the Beast’s mysterious castle, where love and courage overcome even the darkest of curses.”

Performances kick off with a 7 p.m. show on Dec. 20. On Dec. 21, there will be performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. show on Dec. 22 to close out the weekend.

Tickets are $15 for adults, and $12 for senior citizens ages 65 and over or children ages 12 and under. For more details or to purchase tickets, visit JaDukeTheater.com.
