Turners Falls — The Shea Theater is looking for community feedback on mural themes. The original meeting for community discussion has been posted online through MCTV, and a survey is now available for those interested in contributing to the pool of ideas for the mural outside of the Shea Theater.
A Google Survey is open to the public until July 1 with the same questions asked at the in-person meeting. The link to the survey is available here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSetrwlTe10l5pH9V8qPL2_6XzDSioIrwcW1Z4PeB-kDNj8nSw/viewform?pli=1
The Shea Theater has commissioned muralist Darion Fleming to paint a mural on the side of the theater that is relevant to the Turners Falls community. Fleming will take the feedback generated by the community and create draft murals that will be considered and approved by the Shea Mural Steering Group as the original Facebook event page explains.
More information about the mural project is available on the Shea Mural Project website, and questions or comments can be directed to Britt Ruhe, Common Wealth Murals at britt@commonwealthmurals.org.

Zhang was one of the 450 selected students across the county who were selected to participate for a National Security Language Initiative for Youth scholarship. This program was created to help students interested in learning languages to help create dialogue and cultural understanding across many languages.
Zhang will be studying Arabic, and she will live with a family in Marrakech. As part of the program she will be taking classes and visit historically and culturally significant sites across the country. Her initial interest in the language came from a course she took at NMH, and she plans to study international relations in college.
Zhang said in a statement,“I hope to appreciate and understand a part of the world that I’ve never been to before. I want to see its history, its beauty, its little idiosyncrasies. I want to push myself to meet people with entirely different lifestyles and worldviews than mine.”
