My Turn: Tis’ the season for a liberal meltdown

Well, the season is winding down. As I look forward to not going to the Franklin County Fair and tossing my cookies on the Tilt-A-Whirl, I hope to be less cranky as the nights become cooler and the days grow shorter. And since this newspaper continually exasperates me, I must add my two cents.

Columnist Daniel Brown writes, “When you constantly promote political violence and had already sanctioned it on January 6th; don’t be surprised if your incendiary language comes back to bite you” (“Violent words lead to violent acts,” July 26). The writer is wrong, as usual. On Jan. 6, Trump asked his supporters to “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” So there.

Columnist Bill Newman says that “Progressives’ optimism is Walz’s record as governor. He codified abortion rights, protected trans people, legalized marijuana” (“Walz a fine addition — but Trump lurks,” Aug. 12). Feeling optimism for abortion, transgender surgeries, and the legalization of a harmful drug strikes me as, well, weird.

I did watch some of the RNC. Hulk Hogan was rather amusing and Kid Rock was somewhat entertaining. I’d certainly rather listen to him than that overrated hippie, James Taylor.

Writer Edward M. Dowd says, “Note the strange fanatical worship of Trump at his rallies” (“Republican Party is in trouble,” Aug. 13). How about the far-left media fawning over Kamala Harris?

Writer Thomas Newton writes, “Private parts and color have no place in who will lead our great country” (People in politics,” Aug. 13). He’s right, but for those of you with amnesia, it was Joe Biden who chose Harris because of her “private parts and color.”

So RFK Jr. has endorsed Trump, and his siblings lost their minds. How dare Bobby have a different opinion. I’ll bet his siblings never scolded Uncle Ted for leaving Mary Jo in his car.

I wish I could unsee that color picture of people eating food off a naked guy in the Recorder’s Aug. 24 edition. That was just gross.

Former columnist Maddie Raymond writes, “I don’t think I need to tell you twice that what we must do is vote Vice President Kamala Harris into office” (“Harris flawed, but defender of democracy,” Aug. 26). I don’t need to be told twice, or even once. I will be pulling the lever for Trump, not the one who runs away from reporters.

So this fall, as more Trump signs pop up around Franklin County, I will be taking more walks and hopefully be eating less ice cream. I also will tune in to watch the Trump-Harris debate where Madam Vice President will be serving up word salads for 90 minutes. I will be filled with joy that evening as the liberals have another meltdown while I munch on popcorn.
