GREENFIELD — Three people who allegedly stole merchandise from a Home Depot store in New Hampshire were arrested in Greenfield on Wednesday morning following a police pursuit that ended on Duren Drive two hours later.

Jahnie Cox, 20, of Brooklyn, New York, Patrick Singleton, 20, of Queens, New York, and a 17-year-old Brooklyn juvenile who was not publicly named due to his age were arrested at around 10:30 a.m. All three will be charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and receiving stolen property over $1,200, according to the Massachusetts State Police. Cox and Singleton are additionally charged as fugitives from justice out of New Hampshire.

The Keene (N.H.) Police Department posted to its Facebook page that they responded to the area of Ash Brook Road at approximately 8:39 a.m. for a theft of merchandise from Home Depot. It was reported that the suspects had entered the store and began filling bags with items from the shelves. The suspects were reported to be wearing face coverings and had visible firearms.

According to Keene Police, the suspects fled the store and were seen turning west onto Route 9 toward Chesterfield, New Hampshire, in a Chevrolet. Keene Police officers located the vehicle but the driver eluded authorities, initiating a pursuit. Keene Police, with help from the Chesterfield Police, pursued the car to the Vermont-New Hampshire state line, where officers lost sight of the fleeing vehicle.

Information about the crime and the vehicle was broadcast to surrounding towns and Massachusetts State Police located the Chevrolet, which continued to evade troopers, prompting a second pursuit in the southbound lane of Interstate 91. David Procopio, spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police, said the car’s speed exceeded 100 mph before troopers put a tire deflation device across the roadway at the 46.3 mile-marker. The vehicle hit the strip but continued to flee.

According to Procopio, the vehicle exited Interstate 91 at Exit 44 and the pursuit ended, with the vehicle taking Route 2 west and going up Colrain Road in Greenfield.

The vehicle was next located on Duren Drive, near Greenfield Community College, at roughly 9:35 a.m. Witnesses told troopers the suspects had fled on foot and provided descriptions that matched descriptions of the alleged thieves. Police notified GCC of the presence of suspects in the area and, according to the Greenfield Police Department, the schools in the area entered into a shelter-in-place as a precaution.

One suspect was located in nearby woods and taken into custody at 10:26 a.m., according to Procopio. The two others were also found in the woods and arrested less than 10 minutes later. The arrests were made with the assistance of Sig, a State Police K-9 who completed his training on May 31. This was Sig’s first find, according to Procopio.

Barbara Carlton, who lives at 25 Duren Drive with her daughter, said the suspect vehicle stopped in her home’s driveway. She said she was sitting by a living room window having her morning coffee when she heard strange noises.

“It did not sound like a lawnmower noise,” Carlton said in an interview. “It sounded like a car that’s dying.”

Carlton said the gray Chevrolet Malibu that stopped in the driveway had three blown tires and the windshield wipers were moving. She said she saw two men run toward GCC as they exited the vehicle and she called 911.

According to Procopio, all three suspects were expected to appear in Greenfield District Court on Wednesday.
