Feb. 17: Play board games at Town Hall

LEYDEN — As the weather has not been conducive to holding the originally planned Winter Carnival, the Recreation Committee is instead hosting a board game event downstairs at Leyden Town Hall on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 1 to 3 p.m.

All ages are invited to come play. A selection of board games and card games will be on hand, but attendees are welcome to bring their own games as well. A popcorn machine will provide snacks.

Jeannette Eaton teaching mindfulness at library

NORTHFIELD — Dickinson Memorial Library at 115 Main St. welcomes patrons to “An Evening of Mindfulness” with Jeannette Eaton on Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Eaton will lead an introductory session to talk about the benefits of mindfulness and meditation, with short guided practices.

Library program talks pollinator habitat

NORTHFIELD — Dickinson Memorial Library at 115 Main St. will host “Welcoming Pollinators Home” on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Tom Sullivan of Pollinators Welcome landscape design will teach attendees about landscaping for both pollinators and humans. The program is made possible thanks to the Franklin Conservation District’s Native Plants and Pollinators education series.

Historical Commission fills vacancy

BERNARDSTON — The Selectboard recently voted unanimously to appoint Mark Gilmore to the Historical Commission, effective Feb. 7.

Gilmore is filling the vacant position that was once held by Louella Atherton, who died on Nov. 21 of last year. For now, Gilmore is completing Atherton’s unexpired term, which ends on March 31.

Interim library director appointed

BERNARDSTON — Following Karen Stinchfield’s Jan. 26 retirement as Cushman Library director, the Selectboard voted unanimously to appoint Peggy Shippa as interim director, effective Feb. 7.
