July 15: Summer Fiesta Taco Bar

BERNARDSTON — In coordination with Nick Berte’s Spanish class, the Bernardston Senior Center will host a Summer Fiesta Taco Bar on Monday, July 15, at 3 p.m.

Attendees can learn about Berte’s Spanish class, sample the cuisine and listen to Latin music. A $3.50 donation is requested for dinner.

Monthly brown bag program moved to July 15

NORTHFIELD — Due to the Independence Day holiday, the brown bag food distribution — typically held on the first Thursday of the month — for July will be held on Monday, July 15, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Senior Center.

Contact the Council on Aging at 413-498-2901, ext. 114 or email seniorcenter@northfieldma.gov for instructions on how to apply to receive food.

Pot roast on menu

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center’s “July Lunch with Chef Clare” on Thursday, July 18, at 11:45 a.m. will consist of pot roast with gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, and a chocolate chip cookie for dessert.

Travel Club heads to Wagon Wheel, gallery

The Travel Club offered by the Bernardston and Northfield senior centers will enjoy lunch at the Wagon Wheel restaurant in Gill and a trip to Northfield’s Fiddleheads Gallery on Friday, July 19, at 11:30 a.m.

Sign-ups are limited to six people from each town. There will be a waitlist in case one town has spaces open up. The cost for the van is $3 roundtrip. Participants will meet at the Bernardston Senior Center. Alternatively, pickup at home is available.

Steve & Tom to perform before Evening Cafe

BERNARDSTON — Steve & Tom will perform music from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, July 22, at 3 p.m., followed by the Evening Cafe at 4 p.m. The concert can also be viewed on Zoom.

Dinner will consist of chicken scallopini, buttered noodles, green beans, wheat bread and chocolate pudding. A $3.50 donation is requested for dinner.

Northfield Senior Center hosting lawn games

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center will host an afternoon of lawn games (such as croquet, bocce ball and cornhole) on Tuesday, June 23, at 1:30 p.m. Lemonade will be available.

Reiki sessions available July 25

BERNARDSTON — Sheryl Sadler-Twyon of Touch of Sakura will offer free reiki sessions at the Bernardston Senior Center on Thursday, July 25, from noon to 3 p.m. Call the center at 413-648-5413 to schedule.

July 29: Caregivers Support Meeting

BERNARDSTON — A Caregivers Support Meeting will be held at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, July 29, at 3 p.m.

The support sessions aim to establish a space where caregivers can freely express themselves, exchange experiences and insights, and benefit from the support of their peers. Caregivers are welcome to drop by the informal gatherings alone or with the person they’re caring for.

Aug. 22: Heritage River Cruise

Bernardston and Northfield seniors are invited to a Heritage River Cruise on Thursday, Aug. 22. Participants will need to arrive to the boat launch at 10:30 a.m. to prepare for departure at 11 a.m.

While aboard Northfield’s scenic riverboat, up to 44 guests can take in the sites and history of the Connecticut River. This 12-mile narrated cruise takes about one and a half hours.

Northfield student makes Wichita State dean’s honor roll

WICHITA, Kansas — Northfield resident Margaret Rachel R. Embree was among the 3,430 students who were named to the dean’s honor roll at Wichita State University for the spring semester.

To be included on the dean’s honor roll, a student must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours) and earn at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
