May 21: ‘All About Fairy Houses’

NORTHFIELD — Dickinson Memorial Library will host “All About Fairy Houses” with Lara Dubin on Tuesday, May 21, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Adults and teens can learn about designing, building and using natural materials for fairy houses as a fun way to get outside and be creative. The program is sponsored by the Friends of Dickinson Memorial Library.

Card-making class set for May 29

NORTHFIELD — Barb King will lead a card-making class at the Northfield Senior Center on Wednesday, May 29, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Participants will create two spring-themed cards using rubber stamps, patterned paper and embellishments. All materials will be provided.

The cost is $8 per person and there is a limit of six participants. RSVP by May 21 by calling 413-498-2901, Ext. 123.

COA, PTO sponsor teddy bear picnic

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will host a teddy bear picnic with musician Roger Tincknell and Bernardston Elementary School kindergartners Thursday, May 30, at 11 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization and the Council on Aging.

LifePath nutritionist at Senior Center

BERNARDSTON — LifePath’s nutritionist Bi-sek Hsiao will share information about the signs of malnutrition, how to prevent malnutrition, eating a healthy diet, healthy snacks and more at the Bernardston Senior Center on Friday, May 31, at 10:30 a.m. Individual malnutrition risk screenings will also be offered.

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center offers a “Get the Lead Out Writing Group” Mondays at 1 p.m.

The group provides a distraction-free time and space for writing, and can help writers establish and meet short- and long-term writing goals. Writing group members typically set their own schedules, and each group member sets their own writing goals.

Art classes planned at Town Hall

LEYDEN — Retired art teacher Ginny Rockwood will lead three workshops at Leyden Town Hall, one for each month between June and August, at no cost to participants thanks to funding from the Cultural Council.

The workshops, open to ages 12 and up, are as follows:

■June 15 — The blotted line technique, a drawing, printing and painting activity that Andy Warhol once used.

■July 6 — Gelli printing, printmaking with colors, shapes, stencils, layers and much more without the need for a press.

■Aug. 10 — Surface decoration with paper marbling and suminagashi in the morning, followed by handmade books using the morning’s decorated papers in the afternoon. Participants can come to either or both of the August sessions.

All workshops start at 10 a.m. and August’s afternoon session starts at 2 p.m. To register or for more information, email ginnyrockwood@gmail.com.
