NORTHFIELD — To celebrate its 11th anniversary, Cameron’s Winery at 1046 Millers Falls Road will host a Wine, Cider and Brews Dinner Pirate Party on Saturday, Nov. 18, starting at 7 p.m.

Greenfield’s El Greco restaurant will provide food. There will also be live music by Corki & Ken and Terry McKeon. Attendees are encouraged to dress in pirate attire as there will be a costume contest with prizes.

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center’s Happy Feet walking group will convene for a walk on Pine Meadow Road along the Connecticut River on Monday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m.

Walkers will meet at FirstLight Hydro Generating Co.’s pavilion parking lot on Route 63. The walk is approximately 4 miles roundtrip. Dogs on leashes are welcome.

Additionally, on Monday, Nov. 27, participants can meet at the Senior Center at 10 a.m. for a walk with Northfield Elementary School’s kindergarten class during recess.

In the event of inclement weather, Happy Feet walks will be canceled. Call the Senior Center at 413-498-2901, ext. 114 to confirm.

BERNARDSTON — The Lighten Up Trio, the acoustic version of the dance band Champagne Jam, will perform at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m.

The Lighten Up Trio consists of Tracy Kittler on guitar and vocals, Dave Kittler on bass and vocals, and Jim Sauve on guitar, harmonica and vocals. The band plays a mixture of folk, country, rock, easy listening and jazz from the 1950s to present.

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will host a meet and greet with the town’s new veterans agent, Stacey Geneczko, on Monday, Nov. 27, at 3 p.m.

Geneczko is a representative with the Upper Pioneer Valley Veterans’ Services District. She can assist with Veterans Affairs claims for disability benefits and pension.

Dec. 2: ‘Perspectives from Richardson Overlook’

NORTHFIELD — Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust, along with Dickinson Memorial Library and the “Writing the Land: Streamlines” anthology, will present “Perspectives from Richardson Overlook” on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library.

The event will feature poet bg Thurston, Sam and Barbara Richardson, and local naturalists who will help attendees learn about Richardson Overlook through the lenses of poetry, conservation and ecology. There will be an option to partake in a group hike to Richardson Overlook following the presentations, weather permitting.

LEYDEN — Although a start date and time have yet to be confirmed, the Council on Aging is planning to offer virtual exercise classes focusing on balance, muscle strength, flexibility and mobility on Wednesdays and Fridays.

CANYON, Texas — The West Texas A&M University ranch horse team, which includes a Northfield resident, won its first-ever world championship at a recent contest in Abilene, Texas.

“Since we moved up to Division 1 in 2020, we have had numerous individual champion and reserve champion riders at multiple events, as well as two reserve national collegiate titles and a reserve world collegiate championship title,” team coach and animal science professor Lance Baker said in a statement. “These students’ great attitudes, hard work and willingness to sacrifice and dedicate themselves resulted in this first-ever championship. I am honored to coach them.”

The team bested 12 competitors to win the Division 1 collegiate team world championship at the Stock Horse of Texas World Championships, held from Oct. 25 to Oct. 28.

Collegiate ranch horse team members compete in riding and working classes on their own horses. Division 1 teams include two riders in each of three divisions — nonprofessional, limited nonprofessional and novice.

Several of the 16 West Texas A&M riders took home individual awards. Chloe Rourke, a freshman agriculture media and communication major from Northfield, finished sixth overall.
