Wendell author to read from memoir

NEW SALEM — Wendell resident Kai Carol Jud will celebrate the release of her memoir “Life of Kai: a memoir of awakening” as part of the New Salem Public Library’s Local Author Series on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m.

During the event, Jud will read excerpts from her book and engage participants in exercises and dialogue to help them map their own life journeys. These activities are designed to help identify important aspects of life, promoting joy, personal growth and expansion. There will be a book signing after the event.

A native of West Haven, Connecticut, Jud spent more than 30 years in New York City after earning her bachelor’s degree at Columbia University and master’s of social work from New York University. A practicing psychotherapist, she returned to Connecticut in 1996, where she and her husband, Chris Boeve, lived for nine years before setting out on the road. On their travels, they met shamans and spiritual teachers, including the Dalai Lama and Ram Dass, and learned from the cycles and beauty of nature.

Visit Jud’s website, kaicaroljud.com, for more information. “Life of Kai” is available on the site and from online vendors.

StompBoxTrio to perform at Wendell Town Hall

WENDELL — As part of the Full Moon Coffeehouse concert series, StompBoxTrio, a western Massachusetts group that blends classic 20th-century American blues, rock and soul music with 21st-century mojo, will perform at Wendell Town Hall on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m.

Admission is on a sliding scale from $6 to $20. Proceeds from the event will support Wendell Meetinghouse operations and building improvements. Full Moon Coffeehouse concerts feature an open mic, plus the popular Dessert-O-Rama and hot beverages.

Musicians Evelyn Harris (vocals and percussion), John Caban (dobro, vocals and stompbox) and Paul Kochanski (upright and electric bass, vocals and foot percussion) came together initially for a one-off gig in 2017. Since then, their performances of American roots and blues music have shared that musical history with audiences across New England and beyond.

“Our being the beneficiary of the Dec. 14 Full Moon Coffeehouse represents a chance to do two great things in one evening,” Court Dorsey, president of the Wendell Meetinghouse’s board of directors, said in a statement.
