Spectrum has announced an expansion of its services to Warwick and Royalston, among other rural towns, through the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund.

According to the company’s announcement, Spectrum internet, phone and TV services will be available to nearly 1,200 homes and small businesses in the two towns. This expansion is part of a multi-year effort through the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund, which will provide $20.4 billion over 10 years to bring broadband and voice service to millions of homes and businesses in rural areas.

Northeast Director of Communications Heidi Vandenbrouck said that Spectrum’s work is now 90% complete, at no cost to taxpayers.

Spectrum’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund expansion will provide broadband access to 1.3 million customer locations across 24 states in the coming years, according to the announcement. Spectrum has won more than $700 million in state broadband expansion subsidies, which will connect another 300,000 homes and small businesses.

“Massachusetts communities — regardless of location or ZIP code — deserve high-speed internet access. Charter’s RDOF expansion in central and western Massachusetts is important for our kids, their opportunities, our local economies and keeping people here,” Congressman Jim McGovern wrote in a statement.
