NORTHFIELD — Through an ongoing Economic Development Community Survey, town officials seek to better understand how residents spend their money, where they like to shop and what kinds of services they’d like to see more of in Northfield.
The survey was launched on Nov. 27 and will be available through the end of January. It can be found online at bit.ly/3tUgEcn, and hard copies are available at Town Hall, the Senior Center and Dickinson Memorial Library.
Selectboard Chair Alex Meisner said this survey is the first of its kind and can be completed in just 10 minutes.
“The goal of the survey is to stimulate a conversation involving where our economic growth and future can and should head for Northfield,” Meisner wrote in an email.
Questions on the survey include where the respondent lives, what kind of businesses they frequent, what they value in their spending and what services they’d like to see more of — whether that be bike paths, housing, or activities for adults and children. Survey-takers are also asked where they see Northfield in five years and what changes they’d expect to have taken place by then.
“Responses have been decent, but could be better,” Meisner said of the survey’s popularity so far. “It’s a start to what the people want.”
Once the survey period has closed on Jan. 31, Meisner said the responses will be presented to the Selectboard and the Franklin Regional Council of Governments. The results will also be made available to the public, likely through a board meeting, he added.
