TURNERS FALLS — A three-alarm fire reported late Sunday evening has displaced at least seven residents living in a three-story, multi-family residential building on G Street, according to Turners Falls Fire Capt. Trisha Dana.
The fire was reported at 10:37 p.m. and two on-duty personnel, along with mutual aid crews, were dispatched simultaneously to find heavy fire on the building’s third floor, according to the Turners Falls Fire Department. Montague Police reported that all residents were out of the building and an attack was made on the fire, most of which was extinguished within 30 minutes.
More firefighters were called to assist due to the extensive efforts needed to extinguish hidden pockets of fire. The fire was limited to the third floor and it was fully extinguished by 2 a.m., according to the Fire Department. The third floor and roof sustained heavy fire and water damage, and heavy water damage was reported on the second and first floors.
No injuries were reported and all displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Montague Police Department, Turners Falls Fire Department and the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services.
Mutual aid included firefighters from Greenfield, Montague Center, Erving, Orange, Athol, Bernardston, Northfield, Gill, Deerfield, South Deerfield, Sunderland, Shutesbury, Amherst and Brattleboro, Vermont.
