GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man pleaded not guilty to 19 charges in Greenfield District Court on Wednesday following his arrest related to a string of alleged break-ins in Greenfield, Deerfield and Turners Falls.
Matthew Tetzloff, 36, was arrested Tuesday in Turners Falls after allegedly entering a business on Avenue A and then leaving with a safe containing several thousand dollars, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office. Authorities with the DA’s Anti-Crime Task Force and the Greenfield Police Department conducted the arrest.
On Wednesday, Tetzloff pleaded not guilty to four counts of felony breaking and entering; eight counts of vandalizing property; three counts of larceny over $1,200 (felonies); and single counts of misdemeanor breaking and entering, larceny from a building, possession of burglary tools and attempting to break into a safe.
The charges stem from alleged break-ins and thefts from five businesses and a residence in Greenfield, Deerfield and Turners Falls. Investigators believe Tetzloff may also be connected to a similar incident in Hatfield, but charges have yet to be filed.
Assistant District Attorney Alex Keir requested Tetzloff be held without bail based on a separate open criminal case in which he is facing charges. Judge Laurie MacLeod set a pretrial conference for Nov. 15 and ordered Tetzloff be held without bail for 90 days.
This article has been updated to clarify that Matthew Tetzloff was arraigned on 19 charges related to a string of alleged break-ins in Greenfield, Deerfield and Turners Falls.
