HAWLEY — Wayne Lemoine and Ashley Harrison have stepped up to be write-in candidates for a three-year assessor position in this year’s annual town election.

Polls will be open at the Town Office on Monday, May 1, from 11:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will also be a bake sale to benefit the Sons & Daughters of Hawley.

Harrison, an 11-year Hawley resident, is an accountant by trade, so she feels she is well-equipped to take on the position in town.

“I saw a need and knew my background could fill the need,” she said.

Harrison explained she is always trying to learn more through experience. A town position would come with a new certification from the state, and Harrison feels it would be an excellent opportunity to learn through the certification process.

“I have been in town for a long time,” she said. “I am here to stay and want to keep the town and its beauty the way it is.”

Attempts to reach Lemoine were unsuccessful by press time on Friday.

Other positions

Also on the ballot are several uncontested races. Those include:

■Selectboard/Board of Health, three-year term — Will Cosby, incumbent.

■Town clerk, three-year term — Donna Lemoine (previously appointed to fill an unexpired term).

■Auditor, one-year term — Ashley Harrison (write-in).

■Hawlemont Regional School District School Committee, three-year term — Ken Bertsch, incumbent (write-in).

■Mohawk Trail Regional School District School Committee, three-year term — Scott Purinton, incumbent.

■Moderator, one-year term — Scott Purinton (write-in).
