COLRAIN — The ad hoc CPA Exploratory Committee will hold a public information session on Saturday, March 16, at 5 p.m. in the cafeteria at Colrain Central School, 22 Jacksonville Road.
By voting to adopt the Community Preservation Act, the town agrees to a small surcharge on property taxes, and can then receive a match from the state. The CPA provides a locally controlled source of money that towns can use for recreation, historic preservation, affordable housing and open space projects. Exemptions include a $100,000 deduction from everyone’s property value before applying the tax, plus full exemptions for low-income and older residents.
Refreshments will be served. For more information, visit colraincpa.org.
SHELBURNE — Due to a recent resignation, an additional seat as a trustee of the Shelburne Free Public Library will be available in the May 16 election, with a one-year unexpired term.
