Historical Society selling calendars

BUCKLAND — The Buckland Historical Society’s 2024 calendar of Robert Strong Woodward’s paintings, titled “Rugged New England,” is now available for $20.

The calendars can be purchased at Andy’s & The Oak Shoppe, 352 Deerfield St. in Greenfield; Boswell’s Books, 10 Bridge St. in Shelburne Falls; Nancy L. Dole Used Books & Ephemera, 20 State St. in Shelburne Falls; and the Buckland Public Library, 30 Upper St. in Buckland.

The calendars can also be viewed and ordered online at bucklandmasshistory.org.

Church to host Silver Bell Bazaar

BUCKLAND — Mary Lyon Church at 17 Upper St. will host its Silver Bell Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

There will be crafts, baked goods, handmade items, plants and watercolor prints for sale.

Raffle prizes include a hand-stitched queen-size quilt, a watercolor print and a birdhouse. There will also be a “Festival of the Wreaths” raffle featuring more than a dozen themed wreaths.

Activities will also include a silent auction, book table and luncheon served from 11:30 a.m. until the end of the event.

Farmers market coming to elementary school

SHELBURNE FALLS — The 13th annual Shelburne Falls Autumn Farmers Market will be held Sunday, Nov. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School, 75 Mechanic St.

The Autumn Farmers Market will feature items from local farms, eateries, artisans and churches. Items offered for sale will include fresh produce, frozen meats, luncheon options, baked items, jams, jellies, marmalade, pickles, popcorn, wool products, plants, maple products, leatherwork and local crafts.

There will also be live music all afternoon. Tim Van Egmond and Steve Howland will perform hammered dulcimer and fiddle tunes from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. From 12:30 to 2 p.m. will be the band One Part Luck consisting of Cummington residents John Bye and Peg Cowen, performing original songs in two-part harmony, backed up with acoustic guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, harmonica and suitcase drum.

Parking and admission are free. The market can accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for eligible products. Also, Good Bunch Farm can process Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) benefits.

Community Preservation Committee members needed

SHELBURNE — Selectboard members are seeking residents to serve on the Community Preservation Committee. Available seats and the necessary qualifications are listed on the town website.

Charlemontseeks town clerk

CHARLEMONT — With Town Clerk Kathy Reynolds having announced her retirement in September, the town is on the hunt for someone to step into her position.

The Selectboard is looking for a candidate who has completed high school and has at least an associate’s degree or five years of relevant business administration (or comparable) experience. The town clerk position requires computer literacy, excellent organization skills and customer service skills. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to manage several projects at once and be able to comprehend federal, state and local codes.

Miller appointed to Cultural Council

CHARLEMONT — Zorah Miller, 16, was recently appointed to the Charlemont-Hawley Cultural Council.

“Art is a very important part of my life,” Miller told the Selectboard. “It’s just something I enjoy doing. ... I do all sorts of art but I like music in particular. I just think it’s very enriching.”

Charlemont establishes Community Wood Bank Committee

CHARLEMONT — The Selectboard has approved the creation of a Community Wood Bank Committee, which is seeking volunteers to help deliver wood to low-income residents who use firewood as a heating source.

As of Oct. 31, there are two members on the three-person committee: Jay Healy and Cheryl Handsaker.

Meanwhile, Town Administrator Sarah Reynolds is working with the newly formed committee to acquire a grant for up to $10,000 from the Alliance for Green Heat.
