ORANGE — Inside/Out Dance Co., the youth performance company of The Dance Studio of Orange, will present a performance on Saturday featuring some pieces composed by student choreographers.

The dance company’s second annual dance concert is set to showcase the work of teachers and students in an array of dance styles, including modern, jazz, ballet and tap. It is slated to begin at 4 p.m. in the Kermit Cook Auditorium at the Ralph C. Mahar Regional School.

“I started Inside/Out to give students an opportunity to perform more concert-length work,” said Ingrid Schatz, owner of The Dance Studio. “Often when you go to dance recitals the dances are two minutes, but when you’re out in the professional world, dances are often longer than that, or when you’re performing in college.”

Schatz started Inside/Out Dance Co. in 2008 with her mother, Brenda Schatz, who owned The Dance Studio for roughly 40 years.

The younger Schatz said Saturday’s two-hour show will consist of 16 pieces, including eight by student choreographers ranging in age from 11 to 17. Some of the student choreographers will perform in their own numbers. Schatz said the concert will have no theme because each choreographed piece has its own.

“The concert presents an opportunity for young dancers to actually make work and have it produced and presented on stage,” Schatz said.

Student choreographers for this year’s concert are Aubriana Curtis, Ava Doody, Florian Gordon-Halpern, Lila Hickey, Izabella Mallet, Katy McGinnis, Laura McGinnis, Kaylee O’Brien, Vivienne Soucy, Braelynn Warner and Madalynn Warner.

Schatz said there will be a 15-minute intermission, as well as a question-and-answer session with performers and choreographers at the end of the show. There will be refreshments served at intermission, and there will be raffles and raffle baskets to benefit the Inside/Out Dance Co. and The Victoria Rose Scholarship Fund.
