After winning just two games a season ago, the Franklin Tech boys basketball team was hoping for a strong start to the 2024-25 season. 

It got that on Thursday against St. Mary’s in the opening round of the Eagle Holiday Classic. 

The Eagles pulled ahead 25-19 at the intermission before outscoring the Saints 18-11 in the third quarter, allowing Tech to come away with a 50-40 victory in Turners Thursday. 

Franklin Tech will take on Ware in the championship game on Friday. 

Gabe Mota led the way with 17 points while Dylan Cullen tossed in 13 points. Nolyn Stafford had seven points while Hunter Donahue and Brody Hicks each added four points in the victory. 

Greenfield 76, Commerce 66 — A 22 point performance from Grayson Thomas — eight coming in the fourth quarter — allowed the Green Wave to walk away with a win in their opener, topping Commerce in Springfield Thursday. 

Greenfield led 38-32 at the half and 51-43 going into the fourth. 

Jon Breor tossed in 18 points, Caleb Thomas recorded 17 points, Caleb Murray finished with 15 points and Gavin Arsenault scored four points in the victory.

Frontier 61, Southwick 35 — The Redhawk defense showed up in its season opener  in Southwick, keeping the Ra ms off the scoreboard in the first quarter entirely to pull away with a victory on Thursday. 

“Great defensive effort from the Redhawks,” Frontier coach Dave Machon said. “Unselfish basketball and everyone played.” 

Addie Harrington and Skyler Steele each finished with 12 points, Claire Kirkendall put up nine points, Macy DeMaio and Harper Modestow both tallied eight points while Whitney Campbell added five points in the victory. 

Franklin Tech 47, McCann Tech 33 — Leading 16-10 at the half, the Eagles outscored the Hornets 31-23 in the final 16 minutes to pick up a victory in the Eagle Holiday Classic in Turners Thursday. 

Lili Inman led the way with 10 points and seven rebounds, Hannah Gilbert tallied seven points and five steals, Brayleigh Burgh scored six points, Cordelia Guerin tossed in six points to go along with five steals while Madyson Lynde finished with five points for Franklin Tech.
