Tomato soup on Dec. 11 menu

NORTHFIELD — The monthly meal at the Northfield Senior Center, set for Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 12:30 p.m., will include a salad bar, rolls, homemade tomato soup and dessert.

The cost is $7. Reservations are required by calling 413-498-2901, ext. 123, as there is a 25-person limit. RSVP by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

‘Coffee and History’ program taking winter break

LEYDEN — A final “Coffee and History” program will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the historical display in the Town Offices, 7 Brattleboro Road, after which no programs will be held for the rest of December and January.

The historical display will be open by appointment through the winter. Email nannetterolstad@gmail.com to schedule an appointment.

Photography exhibit on display

BERNARDSTON — Members of the Bernardston Senior Center’s Photography Club invite the community to view their photos of the Pioneer Valley on Monday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. at the center.

BERNARDSTON — Linda Ackerman from Greenfield Savings Bank will visit the Bernardston Senior Center on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 11:30 a.m. to talk about new scams and trends.

Paint wooden ornaments at Senior Center

BERNARDSTON — My Art Company will offer a class on painting and decorating wooden ornaments at the Bernardston Senior Center on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The class will be limited to 15 participants. Artists can bring their own paints and brushes, though most supplies will be available. A $5 fee offsets the cost of the program.

Dec. 11: Community lunch and music

LEYDEN — This month’s community lunch at Leyden Town Hall will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Starting at 11:30 a.m., attendees can hear music performed by acoustic bluegrass, country and folk guitarist, bass player and singer David Leblanc of Leyden and finger-style blues, folk and jazz guitarist Craig Manning of Shelburne. They will perform the songs of John Prine, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson, along with Manning’s instrumentals of familiar tunes.

The menu for lunch, to be served at noon, includes shepherd’s pie, garlic knots, salad, and apple crisp or cookies for dessert.

Reservations are encouraged. To reserve a meal, call Linda Allis at 413-834-4417. To-go meals and delivery are available with advance registration.

Make snowflakes, triskele paper globes with Ginny Rockwood

BERNARDSTON — Retired art teacher Ginny Rockwood will lead a free workshop on making snowflakes and triskele paper globes at the Bernardston Senior Center on Friday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants can use the provided patterns and/or create their own. All materials will be provided, though attendees are welcome to bring a pair of scissors.

The program is supported by the Bernardston Cultural Council.

Sara Snyder bringing music to Senior Center

BERNARDSTON — Sara Snyder from Joy of Song will perform at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m.

Happy Feet walkers head to Turners Falls

NORTHFIELD — The Happy Feet walking group heads to Turners Falls on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m.

Participants commuting from Northfield are advised to take Avenue A, take a right onto 11th Street, head over the bridge into the Patch neighborhood, then take the first left to get to the parking lot at Cabot Station. The walking path is flat and kept clear of snow all winter long.

Dogs on leashes are welcome.

Dec. 19: Holiday Cookie Swap

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center’s Holiday Cookie Swap will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, at noon.

Participants are asked to bring two cookies per package to trade. Register in advance by calling 413-648-5413.

Dec. 19: Meet new EMS chief

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center will host a coffee social with new EMS Chief Matt Wolkenbreit on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m.

Holiday luncheon paired with Falltown String Band music

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will offer a holiday luncheon at 11:30 a.m., followed by music from the Falltown String Band at noon, on Friday, Dec. 20.

Lunch will consist of ham, scalloped potatoes and a dessert. A $3.50 donation is appreciated but not required.

Travel Club heads to Hampshire Mall, Atkins Farms

The Travel Club offered by the Bernardston and Northfield senior centers will head to the Hampshire Mall and Atkins Farms Country Market for lunch on Friday, Dec. 20, at 9 a.m.

Sign-ups are limited to six people from each town. There will be a waiting list in case one town has spaces open up. The cost for the van is $6 roundtrip. Participants will meet at the Bernardston Senior Center. Alternatively, pickup at home is available.

Sand available for Northfield seniors

NORTHFIELD — Seniors who are interested in getting a bucket of sand for winter are encouraged to call the Northfield Senior Center at 413-498-2901, ext. 114

Residents who still have a bucket from last year are encouraged to bring it back for refills. Delivery is available.
