Powers Institute Museum open Sunday

BERNARDSTON — The Powers Institute Museum at 20 Church St. will be open Sunday, Oct. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Attendants will be on hand to assist guests. The building is accessible by elevator and ample parking is located at the rear of the building.

The museum includes a taxidermy collection by Bernardston-born citizen naturalist Luman R. Nelson. The room features more than 150 mounted species of birds and mammals collected by Nelson during the first half of the 1900s. Among the many mammals in the collection is a fisher cat, an albino red fox and an albino porcupine.

The museum is open the first Sunday of the month from May through October. Admission is free.

Oakland Stroke Band coming to Leyden Town Hall

LEYDEN — The Oakland Stroke Band, led by former Greenfield resident Ted Wirt, will perform at Leyden Town Hall on Friday, Oct. 18, from 7 to 9 p.m.

This dozen-member band features horns, guitars, Latin percussion, guitars, keyboards and vocals. The Oakland Stroke Band performs danceable, funky music from Tower of Power, Santana, Sly Stone, Janis Joplin and more.

The concert in sponsored by the Leyden Cultural Council.

Warwick Art Show and Sale coming up

WARWICK — The Warwick Arts Council will present its 31st annual Art Show and Sale next weekend at Town Hall, 12 Athol Road.

There will be a “Meet the Artists” reception on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. The exhibit will then be on display on Saturday, Oct. 12, and Sunday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.

The Art Show and Sale will include paintings, photographs, ceramics, collage, literature, quilts, watercolors, monotypes, jewelry, drawings, fiber art, wood carving, sculpture and more from local artists.

Admission is free, though donations will be accepted.
